IT'S BEEN DELIVERED.

I'm suddenly feeling very ill.....need to go home..... :p

"I need to go home"

"Why?"

"Radiation poisoning."

"You don't look like you have radiation poisoning.."

"That's because you haven't let me leave yet :D"

The Mrs & man cub were out over the weekend so was having a good go on it with the headphones on. What moment should they choose to come back with me not hearing them? The exact moments I do a VATS exploding headshot on a Super Mutant. :(

Also failed a quest rescuing a hostage because there was a Raiders v Synths shootout going on. Don't know who topped the hostage but I didn't get there in time.

These are starting to get annoying. The other night I literally finished one when another one started. In the end I have just not finished the last part of the quest (talk to Preston) as this seems to stop any more from being able to happen.

Ah, I'll keep my eye out for that one. Mine was a different quest - 'Kidnapping at County Crossing' - some forums suggesting all kidnapping quests are timed but don't know if that's the case.

Finally loaded it up for the first time yesterday... Played for about 2 hours. Saw my first Deathclaw, didn't know that you were supposed to use the minigun. Now my armour is all kinds of torn up. The good news? I made my double barrel shotgun have a nice long barrel.

Is VATS actually useful? I use it and I die!

I only ever use VATS... my aim is atrocious (PS4). Looks like you need to invest is some ARMOUR!!

It can be, yeah. Especially if you start taking the perks that let you store up critical hits (I personally don't, but still use VATS from time to time, especially against fast-moving enemies)

Depends on your playstyle, perks and equipment choice.

I tend not to use it very often as I like to snipe but there are times when it is very handy. When you have a bunch of fast moving targets in close (assaultrons and bugs especially) or if you need to take something big down with one shot (save the critical up for when you need it).

If you gear up with +AP, AP Regen and AP usage reduction and go for the perks that support VATS it can be really powerful.

@Tesla, don't make the mistake I did - when it says "Pick up the Minigun and clear the area" It means, Pick up the Minigun and clear the area using said minigun.

Did you read clear the area as in "get out of there asap" ?

right okay, so i'm going to be playing it tonight for the first time.

spoiler free tips anyone?

Science, Gun nut, salvaging and local leader are pretty important perks to aim for.

Nope, I read it as "I got a free minigun, let me use X weapon to clear out the... Oh that thing looks nasty, oh it's now eating my face, oh my shiny new armour is now damaged... better use the minigun"

Better late than never I guess. Though my armour is now.... not very armour like.

I didn't use the Minigun because I wanted to save it* and its ammo.

Then the deathclaw came out to play. And I used the minigun.

* I hadn't realised weapons don't degrade in F4

Yeah... turns out a 10mm Pistol and a silly dog VS a Deathclaw.. not very effective. You can't outrun them, you can't out-tank them, you just have to minigun them (admittedly this is the first one I've seen). I ended up losing all but the chest and right leg of the armour, then managed to get the minigun on and blast it.

Well that was a fun evening, Settlements are a lot more fun than I thought they would be (i can only find potatos to plant though ). Managed to do Death claw bit first time, just, had 20 ammo left. Have been blown up by mines a few times already, and it seems to be a lot easier to get killed by gunfire than in previous, but overall a good first impression.

If you're playing on PC, get the planter mod. Well worth while.

Someone is also making a "hotel" mod which adds a whole floor for a settlement. Consists of 3 beds per floor, stairs to the next floor, lights, bedside table, and partitions between the beds.

Progress looks good.

as soon as you can head down to Diamond city, there's a quest fairly early on where you need to go there, once you get there if you head right to the back you'll find a garden area with plenty of plants that you can pick from to plant back at your settlements.
