Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure where to put it.

Kind of an odd request, but does anyone have a mini handheld vacuum cleaner for projectors and stuff? And if s what do you use?

Thanks guys.

Hi,

We use an air pump bought from Argos for £25 - it blows air out so saves on air dusters and is very effective. The vacuum cleaner that we used in the past is sitting on a shelf gathering dust...:-)

Electric Air Pump

Hope this helps,

We do use compressed air for lots of things, but for external and filter cleaning a vacuum cleaner is more cost effective. Or was until it died. :(

We got banned from using compressed air after our NM used the 4th can blowing air into all of our ears, cleaning the walls with it etc.

He brought in his Milwaukee site vacuum that worked quite well. It runs on standard drill batteries I think and is relatively portable.

One tip is to put a pair of ladies tights over the nozzle- saves sucking up any loose screws.

Edit: I remember now! When he brought it in, I was trying to get it to blow and not suck, but ended up shooting brick dust/rubble over the floor as hadn't emptied the vacuum before pressing the switch lol!

I was always told to use air on electronics and hoovers can create static and fry it. Compressors can be picked up quite cheaply, maybe worth seeing if any department has one say for spray guns when painting.

Unless you spec very carefully and maintain it strictly, compressors are horrendous for cleaning electronics - water vapour condenses in the compressed air and is ejected through the line.

Datavac is quite simply the best thing I have ever bought. I bought one for home even.

Let's hope so, as I've just bought one on the strength of this recommendation! They look good and will hopefully make that horrible frozen hand feeling a thing of the past.

I bought one (datavac) for our team to save on tins of compressed air. Tins of compressed air still seem to be the instrument of choice...

Get a pair of ear defenders too as they're quite loud!

Yup, we have a bagless hoover which we use to pickup any mess we make, we have a mini handheld hoover that is rechargeable for projector filters (it makes more noise than it sucks) and we also have compressed air. In out off its like a mini currys crossed with a mini screwfix.

They are a little loud, but otherwise I can't see why you would use compressed air. Granted I used to but they are nowhere near as effective. Hold them at the wrong angle and they have a tendancy to ooze liquid out.

The one we have has been in use for 7 years. I have cleaned 1000's of PCs with it and never broken anything. Just be sure to clean the bottom filter regularly.

Personally, I always use it outside as I dont want the dust going back into the room and subsequently the PC again (and I have respitory issues).
