We started watching From on Scifi last night (not sure how long it's been available, it just popped up in the Sky recommendations and I remember watching the first episode some time ago when AMC had it online for free to promote the show). I'm getting strong Silent Hill vibes, and some hints at an interesting mystery. (and apparently already renewed for a second series).

 

I thought the Orville's future was looking up as Disney+ bought the rights to show it. You've got to think if other Streamers are interested it improves it's chances of not being canned by the network (and there is talk of a succession plan if Seth wants to bail at some point).

 

You could be right about "The Orville", but I thought I'd read that the problem was that Seth had a load of other things on and wanted to "pass the torch" and those interested in keeping the show going were of the No Seth=No Orville opinion.

 

I'd forgotten about "From"; the trailer looked interesting enough.

I don’t think Disney so much bought it as they did inherit it. It used to be a Fox property and was streamed on Hulu. Disney bought Fox along with a majority stake in Hulu. A large amount of Fox stuff then went into Star in Disney+ outside of the US, including the Orville.

Fair enough. I'm sill hopeful for another series. The Orville's felt on the edge of cancellation practically since it started, so I'm just glad it's done as well as it has.

Episodes of season 3 of Orville are too long and not funny, someone edit them to remove minutes and minutes of cgi spaceships cruising around for no reason, or people spending a whole minute walking to the person they're off to talk to.

Just finished the 3rd series of American Gods

 

didn;t have much expectations of it but thought I would give it a go

 

 

MUCH better than I expected

 

until the end of Series 3

thought it ended it all up with a wonderful set up for a great last series

 

 

which is how the writers saw it - and expected it to go

 

until is was cencelled at the last minute so they couldn;t even try to tidy it up in the last one of Series 3

 

 

what a pain - still great ending

Difficult to tell as I havn't read the book - didn;t even know there was one to be honest!

 

Also don;t want to do any spoilers for people who want to watch it -

but the main God character seems to be alive again and his son maybe or maybe not

I watched the first episode of Resident Evil last night.

Not really enough to get a proper bead on it yet, but it looks promising. There's still plenty of ways they could muck it up, sure, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

 

Resident Evil started off strong, but to be honest, I felt like it ended pretty 'meh'. I ended up caring much more about the flashback of the 2 main characters as teenagers than I did about the 'current day' parts of each episode.

Pretty bland in some areas, and relying a lot on 'it's cool because it's big' rather than building legitimate stakes and tensions.

but Neighbours was always the show that would make me switch the telly off and find something better to do

 

I always tend to try to avoid soaps - especially the foreigh ones - as they can get addictive

After an eight week delay caused by a new baby, I finally finished Obi-Wan last night.

 

The final two episodes were brilliant. Visually gorgeous and they played Vader perfectly.

 

I enjoyed the way they made each episode follow similar arcs to the corresponding numbered star Wars film too.

My 10 year old has asked to watch Stranger Things as her class is watching it... I tried a few years ago and didn't get it.

 

I think its a no to letting her watch it.

While she'll probably watch it off her own back, it's probably worth setting your rules.

 

Mme LeMarchand normally refuses to watch anything that has the "horror" label, and I'm surprised she didn't give up during the most recent season of "Stranger Things" which was definitely full-on "horror". If I had a 10 year old, I'd say "no" too.

 

Show is very good, though!
