How long do you spend in the bathroom? Family discussion at the minute.

Normal morning - 3/4 mins on the loo, 5 mins shave(15 mins if I want a decent shave), 10 mins shower.

If I'm having a shave, which I probably do once a week, about 40 minutes. I use a cuthroat razor, soap and a brush and I like to take my time to avoid ripping my face off.

Any tips for starting with a cut throat? Currently use a DE and enjoy it - enjoy going to the barbers every now and then for a proper wet shave! Want to give it a go but I'm a bit nervous!

Not actually cutting your throat would be a start :p

I would get a shavette from ebay that takes a DE blade snapped in half to start with, try it for a couple of weeks and if you like it, keep reading...

* Strop your razor frequently and for a long time. I do it sat in front of the tele just before I go for the shave!

* However much soap you think you need, use a bit more - a best badger brush is a good quality/price compromise, synthetic or boar hair brushes are a waste of time.

* Buy a good razor, mine came from shaving-shack.com, I've got a Dovo 5/8 stainless razor - reckon it costing £100+ for the razor and the same again for sharpening and stropping accessories - I started with a a £5 ebay shavette that takes a DE blade snapped in half, which is handy if i'm in a hurry as I don't have to prep it.

* Don't get a razor with a wooden handle because you can't dunk it in the water and it really does make a difference to the sharpness.

* Get lots of hot water in the sink, put the razor in the water while you wash and soap, the hot water actually makes the blade sharper

* Don't be tempted to try and cut too much at a time, the blade is long and straight, your face is not.

* All of the things you did before a bit half heartedly - washing your face, using a hot flannel, using cold flannels afterwards - do it like you mean it!

* Shave slowly and make sure you stretch your skin out really thoroughly as you shave.

* Get a styptic pencil, you will cut yourself at some point.

* Styptic pencils hurt like a b*tch but they work.

Have only done it once really. Just to see.

Done it when eating a massive meal too.

Once before I went down a lift with 8 people and it had a capacity of 8. We had a massive meal. The 7 of us then went back in the same lift...stuck. We managed to eat enough to trip the lift and get it stuck.

20 mins on loo, reading Facebook and RSS. Then 25 minutes in shower (that's when it switches off!) usually daydreaming about what I'm doing that day rather than actually taking that long to shower.

I can be at work 20 mins from waking if absolutely necessary, with 15 minute usual drive cut down to 10'ish.

if I'm reading in the sanctuary its about 40 minutes, if not about 5-10 minutes, I can get ready to go out in about 10 minutes, wife takes about 20-30 on average.

Once the boy is toilet trained the whole system is going to come crashing down ill bet :)
