If there is one thing I hate about doctor who its the people that go on about which doctor is better. Everyone prefers their own doctor no doctor is better than another they are all different! I think capaldi plays this role of the doctor perfectly and I loved the 1st episode, for me might be the best episode of Nu who!

I enjoyed the episode, sure, but it does feel rather clichéd. "Hey Missy, you're so fine.." What was that all about? That was just.. Eh. Could've really done without that. I know the Master/Missy has a flare for extravagance and a little bit of a childish side but it still just didn't feel right. It's nice that Doctor Who isn't "The Clara and Danny Show" anymore, though I have to admit I do like the fact that they tried to focus on a companion both 'being the companion in the TARDIS' and 'living a normal life', but I do think we need a new writer by now. Edit: I did like UNIT calling up Clara at work, though. That was a good feature. Seems she's integrated the double-life thing pretty well now, The Doctor used to be able to threaten his enemies into submission without actually doing anything ("I'm the Doctor, and you're in the biggest library in the universe.. Look me up!").. Now it feels like he's reduced to a cowering, snivelling wreck all to often, with no option of self-defence. How did The Doctor get back to the planet after the Daleks blap'd the TARDIS? That being said, bringing Skaro back was a nice touch, especially how they did it. I did like that. Re: The Doctor exterminating Davros, I suspect he'll use his Dalek-gun to clear a path through the handmines to prove that compassion isn't weak. Overall the episode wasn't bad.. But I do wish people would stay dead for just a little while longer. I mean, okay, we all knew Missy wasn't dead, that's okay, but Davros go boom. He shouldn't be around anymore. As another long-standing fan of Doctor Who I would like to say that when I pitched in recently it wasn't a moan or a criticism of the latest incumbent. I simply expressed a preference. I am sure that many will have a preferred Doctor but that does not mean that others who take the role have less worth. For me many of Tom's episodes have something extra that is often not seen when other actors have the role. It is an expression of personal preference: We are all allowed to express these. You can listen, you can agree, disagree or ignore. It won't change how I feel.

I know thick eyebrows are the fashion, but Clara looks like a couple of caterpillars have climbed on to her face As someone who loathes the "pluck 'em out then draw a line on" look, even I thought that those were some strong eyebrows. I thought there would only ever be one doctor .... and that was Tom Baker. I actually stopped watching in the (Tom) Baker years. Found him too "wacky". Yeah. I probably would. Missing friends and family, for a start. Secondly, you have one of two three choices. Return by going back in time to the day you left. Suddenly show up "the next day" to work... Ten years older. Live a 'normal life', except go to work on Monday, go to Raxacoricofallapatorius Monday.5, go to work three days later, on Tuesday. Don't return the day you left, return a few years later. Be a missing person. Have everyone worried. (See: Rose Tyler) Nobody is going to notice you ageing a few days, bit-by-bit. Unless you get mauled by some space-beastie, I s'pose. The dynamic of TARDIS+Danny was an annoying one, but I did like that it was shown to be putting a huge strain on their relationship and whatnot. It was fun, Rory travelling with Amy, and being okay with it all, but it was nice to see the other side of the spectrum too. Edited September 21, 2015 by Garacesh

This ^ I am all for opponents that have some power, but this is going a bit far when the Doctor seems to be only able to change outcomes by changing the timeline

I can imagine John Simms' Master doing something similar. Hell he even had the whole Here come the drums bit in the Sound of Drums. But this is Skaro, in the middle of what would appear to be a rather advanced and numerous Dalek society. It's not like in Genesis when there were just six Daleks and nobody was sure how big a threat they would become. How did The Doctor get back to the planet after the Daleks blap'd the TARDIS? Daleks have time travel too. It's likely Davros let him go back. There's Davros' plan (whatever that may be) and also the Dalek's plan. They rarely work together. Davros go boom. He shouldn't be around anymore. Getting bored with cop-out survivals. Davros has gone boom many many times. He's too canny to not have a transmat ready to go the moment things get too bad.

Oh yeah, I know, I figure if they bother to explain it (which half the time they never do..) it'll just be waved down to Emergency Temporal Shift. I don't know about the Daleks 'letting' him go back. The Daleks have already shown to treat Davros unfavourably. There's no guarantee that the building he's in isn't the Dalek equivalent of a prison. They had him basically locked in the basement like Sloth from the Goonies. So maybe Davros is trying to undo ever creating the Daleks because of being imprisoned by them. Only time will tell. Overall I did enjoy the episode, just niggling little bits that bugged me.

Garacesh Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Whilst episodes 1 and 2 were entertaining, they had that certain 'meh' factor to them that left a bitter taste in the mouth and didn't really leave me eager for Episode 3.. I found Episode 3 much more enjoyable and am looking forward to 4. Hopefully it stays this way. Perhaps this thread should be renamed The Doctor Who Series 9 Trailers & Discussion Thread?

It has been a mainstay of the show for many years, even coming back after having been written out of the show for a while. I am not a fan of the sonic sunglasses either but I am sure that its sonic forerunner was not universally accepted in its early days either. Perhaps we should wait a little longer.... ...and then get rid of them!
