Anyone else fed up of the sonic sunglasses?

Not so much fed up as puzzled.

New sonic for each doctor = new merchandise opportunities. "Sonic sunglasses" = quick trip to the market for a matching pair.

I thought the original "Into wearable technology" line was ok and made sense as Davros had the (a) screwdriver but now it just feels... gimicky? not sure that's the correct word. I dunno, just doesn't seem right to me. We'll just have to see how long they hang around for.

They wouldn't have gone amiss on Matt Smith, as he was very quirky and gimmicky, but it suited him. Tennant could've made them work for one or two episodes, too. But I just don't feel they work too well on oh-so-serious Capaldi. And there's nothing wrong with having a very serious Doctor, I actually quite like it, it's a nice change, but the glasses seem so.. Out of place.

Maybe that's what it is, out of place, the glasses don't match Capaldi's style (or what I think his style to be).

I've heard a lot of hate about Capaldi's doctor but I like him.

The sunglasses are just stupid, for the one episode as a gag and because it fit, yeah why not. Permanent replacement is just taking an iconic piece of the franchise and swapping it with something terrible. The sonic screwdriver was always like a magic wand, it looked cool and could do anything. Sonic sunglasses, just look like sunglasses and when you do something more with them then put them on your face it looks stupid.

Just to note I'm not a rabid Dr Who fan but this is a really odd decision by the writers.

So - Vikings with horned helmets when it is known that they did not have such things?

I questioned that, too!

Apart from that, I quite enjoyed the episode and look forward to seeing where they go with it next week. On the other hand, while it's interesting to see the impact The Doctor has had in the odd episode, "New Who" seems overly concerned with it. Can't we just have adventures?

Of interest to fans of the lovely Karen Gillan, a short by her about a horror film actress coping with her fall from stardom. Not seen it yet, but presumably NSFW.

Yeah, we all know they didn't, but the image of them still persists (and also most people don't know they didn't, despite it being proven.)

Would have been nice if they'd not had the horns, and had Clara ask where they were, and the Doctor correct her. But given DW is primarily for entertainment, and the idea that they had horned helmets still persists, I get why they did it. Besides, it looks cooler, and shows like Dr. Who will always try and appease the rule of cool.

I didn't find this one as good as episodes 3 and 4, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Honestly, though, and I know there are many Game of Thrones fans (I confess to never watching it myself).. I found what's-her-face to be a little lacklustre. Her impassioned speech against Mr. Testosterone-Chugger was good, but aside from that.. Hmm. Maybe she'll shine better next episode?

well that was boring when I watched it sunday morning (I cant even be bothered to remember what time its on anymore as it keeps changing) I could barely be bothered with it that was dull unless they start writing stuff that's better I think I may give up on dr who

I was wondering why Clara's makeup had changed. Obviously more slap = evil. Quite enjoyed this one, though the metaphor was a little OTT. Edited by LeMarchand
