This series is really annoying me. If he could leave himself a note in the sand why not leave one saying something a bit better than Birds. Also, if a big scary monster is chasing me then I would be keeping the first weapon I find which means I would have it for the big diamond wall so i wouldn't have to waste my time punching it over and over again.

Because that's how it was. Is. Will be.

 

If the Doctor changed the message, then the events that led him to find room 12 and the wall may not happen. What he knows is the exact circumstances he's found end up leading him to the wall, and when he's there, he understands. Even if it takes him an eternity, he knows that if he repeats the exact same message, he will end up at that wall. Knocking a nanometer off each time. Eventually, after more millennia than can be counted, he gets through.

 

One change means he might not end up at the wall. If the cycle is broken - even once - then he may not end up at the room to bring himself back. One change, and he risks never escaping. It has to be identical every time.

 

I have to admit, as soon as I saw the skulls I clocked on though. They were all identical. This was affirmed when the skull from his 'spawn room' fell into the water. I figured they were all the same person. Didn't figure out the ending obviously, but it's nice to know I picked up on an important detail.

I loved this episode, one of my favourites ever actually.

 

Although, going against general opinion , I liked Clara, it was good to see The Doctor on his own figuring things out.

 

Can't wait for the final episode

"Sonic glasses" are a reasonable idea. Like um.. what's her face.. the Nanny, had a Sonic Pen. A sonic device that was easily disguised is a great idea.. Just not those godawful huge sunglasses

Sonic Pen was a great idea because it was alien technology nicely concealed in an inconspicuous wrapper. Same reason we loved the chameleon circuit.

 

These glasses are gaudy and blah. The idea itself is sound, but the execution leaves much to be desired.

I have to admit, as soon as I saw the skulls I clocked on though. They were all identical. This was affirmed when the skull from his 'spawn room' fell into the water. I figured they were all the same person. Didn't figure out the ending obviously, but it's nice to know I picked up on an important detail.

 

I hate to be that guy, except clearly I don't because I wouldn't say anything if I didn't hate it, but... it was obviously the Doctor's hand pulling the lever at the beginning. To be fair, I had it figured as a closed time loop rather than rebooting from the teleporter HDD, and at one point I was loudly declaring it was a trap he had set for himself, to force himself to face some truths after Clara's death (although it was luring him into the trap that caused Clara's death, but Who isn't normally bothered about plot holes like that), but it wasn't a huge revelation that he was basically going round in circles.

 

As I saw elsewhere (io9, I think): having spent two billion years keeping the secret of the hybrid, why, when he finally escapes, are virtually his first words "the secret is that I'm the hybrid"?

I figured that was to try and prompt him into a specific confession or, as you say, torture him some more.

 

We still don't know who set the castle up, after all. It could be the Time Lords, but it could be Missy, it could still be himself. Actually looking forward to finding out, which is the first time in two or three seasons I've been looking forward to Doctor Who.

 

I really want to like Capaldi's Doctor, and I don't know if it's the scripts or the companion but he's still not clicked for me. Matt Smith + Amy & Rory is still the best of new Who for me.

Rory has been the best New-Who companion to date, I think. Above anything else, he was relatable, had proper character development, and had some great impassioned speeches - I especially liked the one where he shouted at the Doctor for making people want to impress him and putting themselves in danger. Absolutely loved Rory.

 

The scripts, I think, have been a bit lacklustre for Capaldi, but maybe they're just struggling to find his niche. I found this one to be very good, though. And his speech about what to do with the pain of war to Zygella was excellent, truly a solid 'Doctor' moment.

 

Thing is, after he escaped and found himself on Gallifrey, didn't the thing that closed up that had the castle inside it, wasn't that supposed to be the equivalent of a Time Lord's last will and testament? I'm sure that'll be explained in time, but still.

Rory has been the best New-Who companion to date, I think. Above anything else, he was relatable, had proper character development, and had some great impassioned speeches - I especially liked the one where he shouted at the Doctor for making people want to impress him and putting themselves in danger. Absolutely loved Rory.

 

I did like Rory, especially the "Last Centurion" idea. But Amy is my favourite .

I suspect its both I don't think claras bad just not a good fit for capaldi might of worked well with any of the last 3 but they were all "higher energy"

Capaldi is so miserable and conflicted all the time. Losing a companion is awful yes but you'd think he would have got over it by now - it's happened before after all.
