dry Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Have been let down by the waste toner company (who's name is printed on the side of the box that appeared in my office one day). Apparently their warehouse is full and unless we've got premium empties (that we're willing to give them for free) then they're not interested for a couple of weeks. There seems to be a million and one companies that are willing to take empty toners but has anyone got a recommendation for someone who's reliable? It'd be nice to get a donation to the school or charity but I'm not overly bothered- just as long as they actually come and take the blinkin' things out of my office! Got one overflowing box that needs collecting.

6Foot2 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 We had a bad experience with a toner collection company. Quite a while ago now our collection bin was full to overflowing and I was off for the day. Two individuals came in to collect the toner. They did indeed take all of the toner we had collected. However they were not from the company we had the agreement with: They came in and stole our collected toner.
ITGURU Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 We use Takeback - once you have minimum 20 toners (mainly brother) they will send courier to collect. Once they receive, if they're in a recyclable condition you can get upto £2.50 back per toner/drum.

rad Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 We used to go to various companies to get the best prices etc, then got bored of that due to the hassle it caused vs the amount that was paid. Now we send Brother back via Royal Mail and HP send us a box, we fill it, they send a courier to collect it. The toner companies that pay, sell to the compatible toner market. Its a cycle. If one has warehouses full, it means no one is buying the compatables.

If they're just the plastic bottle type, like in big MFDs, then that would be reasonable. However, if they contain any electronic components (which most toner bottles do), then you must dispose of them correctly. You can be fined and prosecuted for improper disposal of electronic waste.
sparkeh Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 We were advised by our managed print provider to simply put them in the bin. Most types of toner cartridge are classed as WEEE. Our photocopiers just take big plasticky bottles which can get binned, AFAIK. edit: beaten to it
