Looking for a lockable drawer for our server rack.

Somethings that i can lock our external drives in. Needs to have cable holes in the back so they can still be plugged in and also vents or fans for cooling.

Anyone know of one?

Cheers.

Thats my plan if there isnt one :).

Really tring to sort our server room out this year as ive saves a load of cash elsewhere.

About to buy blanking plates for the entire rack and a 4 fan exhaust for the top.

We're also looking for a good lockable draw solution. Haven't found anything suitable for removable hard drives yet.

We laser cut our own branded blanking plates though!

Seems like everyone has laser cutters apart from us :(. Feeling left out with all the cool stuff ive seen done with them.

Penn are the manufacturer and if you call them they will give you a good price as a school. If you are in the market for it, they are able to customise too!

Cheers,

Just fired off a email explaining what im after, Will see what they come back with. Problem witht he laptop one is that the only air passing through will be from the server exhaust fans. Shouldnt be to hot but will be warm.

I've just had a chat with the lovely people at Racksolutions about this.

Unfortunately they've never come across a vented drawer. All their offerings are fully sealed units. Very reasonable priced though.

They did mention that it would be possible to make a custom job, but that the price would likely be prohibitive. :(

Thanks Dave,

Dont think they normally get locked in whilst in use.

Waiting to get a response from Penn otherwise the drill could be making a appearance.

Need to see if you can get a 120mm or smallerfan that can plug into the mains rather than into a MB.

Out of curiosity, what're you storing in there which needs such cooling?

If you have top/bottom fan trays in your rack, then drilling ventillation holes in the base and rear of the shelf/drawer should provide sufficient airflow to move on most of the heat.

Two desktop drives possible 4 in the future. Use for our weekly backups at the mo.

Bipra USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter Kit with Power Adapter for 2.5/3.5/5.25 inch SATA or IDE Drive: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

with a 8mm fan in a 2/4u locker.

Drill out the screw holes and a fancy pattern for the fan to draw the air out the back. Some holes in the front for the cool air.

No fans in the rack yet, Only have the two servers so have the air con directed into the front of them. Now ive got a bit of cash im going to try and do a proper job.

Such a huge cabinet for the school. Would have been better to have something half the size.
