Anyone interested in a large AOE : DE game?

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition. It's a remaster of the original Age of Empires which got released yesterday.

 

And yeah, if I'm around, I could join you for that!

I would, but I don't own it, and the AOE2 re-release/remaster (if you can call it a 'remaster'....) taught me that I had some major rose tinted glasses and I am, in fact, dreadful at RTS.

RTS has always been my fav game type.... which is ironic... as it's also the game type i'm worst at!

My mates and I tried a game of 3v5 on AoE, 3 of us against 5 AI opponents. We set it up so we were one team and the AI were the other. We started off well and we all managed to get to the Tool Age, and then came the biffing from all sides... One of my friends got zerg rushed from the beginning, I went to help with what little I had and managed to fend off the few units attacking, before noticing my empire was being wrecked by a group of at least 10 chariot archers... The other friend was set upon by the same chariot archers once they were through with me. We were all defeated within 20 minutes of starting the game. The AI build at a ludicrous rate somehow, the nearest empire to me had at least 4 archery ranges and several siege workshops. We learned a valuable lesson - Don't team AI!

Halo. Star Wars (assuming that is all SW games). Total war. The Elder Scrolls (nothing has impressed me as much as playing oblivion for the very first time)

 

I'd have chosen Final Fantasy, but I only have a truly deep love for FFVII, the rest I can take or leave.

Not played enough of them to make an entirely informed choice, but: Witcher, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy and one other.

Fallout and elder scrolls XD only two i can say i invested enough hours into and would regret not doing it.

Had to be a bit harsh as there's 7 there that are favourites of mine, but anyway:

- Halo. My first online gaming experience was with Halo 3, and I played all of them for hundreds of hours. Friendships have been forged because of Halo.

- Star Wars. X-Wing Alliance, the Jedi Knight series, Knights of the Old Republic were all part of my formative years. Add to that, the universe as a whole!

- The Elder Scrolls. I am a late comer to the Elder Scrolls series, I liked what I played of Oblivion but always felt the mechanics were a bit clunky. Then along came Skyrim, which I have poured an incredible amount of time into. A big improvement from Oblivion mechanically, in my opinion.

- Grand Theft Auto. Countless hours I've spent running around in GTA 2, GTA IV and GTA V. I think it shaped modern setting open world games, and nothing else has come close.

 

Honorable mentions - Fallout, The Witcher and Mass Effect. I love the modern, Bethesda published Fallouts. I really enjoyed The Witcher 3, although I didn't play earlier games. Mass Effect is a great series, but Star Wars had a bigger impact.

Holy s(ugar) that's a cruel choice... Going to have to share with a few of my friends and see what they come up with

 

Mass Effect deserves an honorable mention, but as I've played them all to death (except Andromeda) I could live without them.

 

The Elder Scrolls - fantastic series, Skyrim is one of my favourite games. I still find stuff to do in it I also have to complete Morrowind some day!

 

Fallout - obviously.

 

Star Wars - assuming this is all games, KOTOR, SWTOR, Jedi Outcast/Academy... I could practically live off these games.

 

Deus Ex, Total War, STALKER.... Total War - I need a strategy game in this list!

Half-Life is a damn close runner-up but I've come to terms with the fact that it's gone forever anyway HL3 shall never exist.

Sonic - Always been a big Sonic fan, first game I remember playing.

 

Pokemon - Just for the childhood memories

 

and probably Mario and Final Fantasy, just for the amount and scale of those games..

ok ones ive never played so have no real opinion on

the elder scrolls,metal gear, mega man, fallout, dark souls,world of warcraft, battlefield, resident evil,the witcher, total war, stalker, dues ex, tekken,harvest moon, mass effect

 

of the rest never enjoyed half life

bayonetta played a demo of 2 on wii-u and diddnt get it wasnt bad but diddnt do anyhting for me but if theres a demo on switch ill give it another shot

monster hunter again tried world demo and was bored by it

cod only one i played was modern warfare it was ok but that it

i enjoyed the old doom but diddnt like the reboot (again demo), final fantasy is very hit and miss 15 is the worst game ive played in years but i enjoyed 7 8 was ok 9 i think ive played liked 13/13.2 13 3 was garbage

sonic the good to bad ratio is awful and mania diddnt do owt for me got to a zone couldnt beat the boss several times and the way i did finally beat it felt like a cheese rather than an accomplishment so sapped the game of all interest for me

assassins creed tried unity got bored gave up

so were left with 7

zelda,mario,halo,gta,pokemon,street fighter and star wars.

I have had lots of fun with various of these games so its down to which has the most good games or i still play, so thats mario out the only ones i really like are super mario world, and the 2 galaxy games.

street fighter i remember playing lots of sf2 in the snes era but ive tried it relatively recently and it does very little for me (now im willing to accept thats because i played round robin style with friends in the day now i game alone but if i have to lose 3 its the easiest to lose)

basically i have at this point to chose to lose halo or star wars the issue is both i really enjoyed in the past my favourite star wars games are the flight sims xwing/tie fighter, xwing alliance etc. whereas i played and enjoyed halo 5 relatively recently, tough call but i think as they are still making halo games i enjoy i have to lose starwars

 

so after all that im keeping

pokemon even though it has issues and ive missed several gens but when its good there is little to rival it sun/moon were great (ultra sun/moon less so)

zelda like mario there are some stinkers in there (oot) but i couldnt lose link to the past/link between worlds/breath of the wild lttp is the game ive probably bought/completed the most over the years on pretty much any system i could get it on

yes playing that game made me give up on zelda until the 3ds with link between worlds. ive even got the 3ds remake and i still dont care for it at all. i would much rather play skyward sword as wierd as that game is the motion controls are fun and i really enjoyed playing it and i hope it gets a hd remake

I haven't either, really. It's considered blasphemy by a lot of people! I used to work in the local Gamestation (RIP) and one of the higher ups spat feathers when I mentioned it...

 

I did try Skyward Sword on the Wii. It didn't grab me much and I haven't tried another Zelda game since. I'd probably give Breath of the Wild a fair crack if I had a Switch.

I couldn't really articulate why I didn't like them when I was younger, because I was younger, and less articulate. But I just didn't like them.

Maybe it's because I was already more exposed to traditional JRPG elements, like earning money from killing monsters rather than rampant vandalism/destruction of property.

Haven't tried any of the new ones.

i enjoy zelda and the idea but only real played a link between worlds. Gonna give breath of the wild a go at some point soon.

My main problem with BOTW was that I was a little burnt out with open world games (after just having completed Final Fantasy XV, and Skyrim [again]).

 

On a COMPLETELY seperate note, Stellaris 2.0: Apocalypse tonight. Can't wait to continue my rampage across the galaxy >: D Suffer not the xeno to live.

Recently completed my first run through of Persona 5 - I've now dove back in for my second cleanup run.

 

I've blitzed through the storyline of Titanfall 2 - such a pity it's release was eclipsed by other games as it's actually rather good.

 

FINALLY gotten max affinity with Piper on Fallout 4 (yeah, yeah - I know some don't like her), just hunting down the last of the bobbleheads.

I *may* have caved in yesterday and bought Kingdom Come: Deliverance... I've been eyeing it since just before release. Green Man Gaming decided to give me a 20% off voucher for it...

 

I'd been watching Sips play it on YouTube and decided that, despite it being quite buggy and unpolished, it looked like a lot of fun. I played it most of yesterday and I'm really enjoying it! I haven't run into any major bugs yet, either.

ok i completed the remake of secret of mana over the weekend on ps4. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME at least not yet. ive never seen a console game thats presumably gone through certification crash as much as this game has (and its not just me i was watching the completionist on twitch last night and it crashed on him) its not a bad game and some of the music is actually an improvement (some isnt), the voice acting is bad but i cant decide if it just bad or so bad its funny (and i assume it has to be direction as Primm is voiced by the voice actor who does Ann in persona 5 though a lot of the rest are newbies by the looks). the graphics you neither can live with or not its ok in my opinion. all i can say other than that is thank f for autosave this game must of crashed over a dozen times and the games normal save points can be well spaced out. one day i will go back and platinum it but not until its fixed
