Mainly:

HP Desktops, HP AIO's, Dell Desktops.

Dell Laptops.

Apple Devices.

Looking for suppliers who are competitive price wise, have decent customer service and most importantly can reliably deliver the products within their lead time.

Any recommendations welcome.

Our go-to guys: @VeryPC (Pricing is not always as sharp as some but the service is impossible to beat) @Millgate (Good pricing, lots of good comments from Edugeek)

AMC in Kettering. (We deal with Chris, very rare for him to be unable to beat anyone on HP networking gear, and again great service)

Stone are also worth a shout even for other branded products.

For the rare occasions I use big name brands then either Misco, Insight, or Novatech. For most hardware purchases though it's bespoke kit from VeryPC or Novatech with a little Stone or Ergo thrown in for good measure.

I stopped buying HP/Dell/etc a long time ago. Companies like VeryPC and Novatech can give me the specs I want at the price I want with reliability and support that HP can't compete with IMHO.

AT Computers (Tewkesbury) have been fantastic for our Apple stuff. Otherwise, I source laptops from whoever is cheapest, or buy refurb - sometimes ICT Direct but tbh their service can be patchy so I'm using IJT Direct at times depending on price.

Server-wise, I get my stuff (Dell) from iCT4 - the prices are always excellent and the service is SUPERB

Ordinary Box shifts... BT Business for HP, SchoolCare for projectors, Futurform for toners, Millgate for pretty much everything else

Refurbished kit... ICT Direct

Hello all,

Can I ask how VeryPC and the like offer warranty i.e. next business day with engineer to fix the problems, do they offer these type of services. I find sending off equipment to be repaired/looked at takes far too long from past experience. I do like the dell solution of NBD warranty and have had positive experience so far with them in regards to warranty.

I can't answer for Very PC, but Stone just have a nationwide network of roving technicians who turn up and fix stuff. Simple as that.

From memory...I think Novatech offers NBD onsite but I've very, very rarely needed it. VeryPC's is sent back to Sheffield for repair but it's a no quibble servers with extremely quick turn around and excellent customer service all the way through. Again, rarely need to use it. When I buy suites of machines I tend to buy 1 spare to have on hand for an instant swap over anyway, so 2-3 days out for repair doesn't effect us so much.

IDNS and Novatech have been the best at getting me both quotes and equipment over the past year and sorting out issues quickly. Dabs, European and Dell are slipping a bit in their service and support.

Apple stuff - Albion have a shop just down the road from us so we can have anything next day and pricing is excellent but if they don't have a shop near you their delivery to site is for some reason less reliable.

I don't know what they're like now, but I've previously had to work the Novatech telephone support pretty hard to get them to send an engineer out even when the warranty includes it - they've always tried to send parts to me or for the machine to go back.

I tend to mainly use Probrand and IDNS - the latter have gotten me some great deals on printers recently.

With Dell I just go direct if buying new and want more than a couple of machines. Do you have access to a Premier login to see school pricing? Otherwise I have actually bought a few Dell machines off eBay - there are a couple of sellers selling brand new machines with the standard 3 year NBD OS warranty (albeit with a few months used but they tell you exactly) with quite a large discount. The two main vendors have been XSOnly and XPN1.

Hey superatticman,

We can supply all of the above plus more. Big HP & Dell partner. We actually stock a lot of Dell kit these days so we can send it out next day :)

I like to think our service is second to none & hopefully our fellow Edugeekers will vouch for that.

Feel free to drop me an email and I'll be happy to help out

VeryPC support is brilliant - they've sorted me out over the phone/via email several times. I've never had to send anything back for repair as its all performed flawlessly so I can't comment on turnaround time, but I'm confident it would be quick based on previous experience. I'm slowly replacing all the RM and Fujitsu desktops that remain from before I worked here with VeryPC desktops - as budget allows. Same with laptops - we've started using their ThinBooks and staff love them - especially the custom printed skin...

Give @VeryPC_Colin_M a PM to ask for a quote. He'll sort you out.

A shout out here for CCS media... Maybe we just have a good account manager but turnaround time is incredible, and they seem to be able to get hold of anything and everything

@Oaktech

I don't think so - one school wouldn't let me (I presume, as they wouldn't let me go to BETT) and the other has loads of issues due to a complete new IT suite, new server, new netbooks etc so I can't spare the time.

Not to mention the fact that I just borked the screen on a brand new Fujitsu laptop :(

I understand why they might not let you out during the day, and I'm not allowed out to play either, but it does go on until 7pm. I'm going afterwards, about 5pm.

Ahh - really? Didn't even look at that.

I'm in school till 3.15 demonstrating the horns - could go after that I suppose. Can I be bothered to drive across town at that time of day though?
