Norphy Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Never thought I'd be relieved to hear that a Conservative candidate won a seat but in this instance, I am.
localzuk Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Looks like 3 leadership battles coming up then! Kinda glad there are to be honest!! We need some new leaders. Maybe some with conviction and character.
pcstru Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Joining you will be Ed Balls, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg And goodbye to George Galloway too. Or do I mean good riddance! 1
LeMarchand Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Three leaders resigning after one election... good lord, Cameron is going to be unbearably smug about this, isn't he? This is his entire after dinner speaking repertoire being written right here. I didn't think it was possible for him to get any more smug, but you're probably right. On the subject of Labour leaders, did anyone see "A Very British Coup" back in the 80s? (Recently remade as "Secret State" but I've not yet seen that). I'm currently feeling that if a good, charismatic and actually Socialist Labour leader ever got into power things would end up like they do in the show. Spoilers in the "Differences between novel and TV" section in A Very British Coup - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gatt Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 And goodbye to George Galloway too. Or do I mean good riddance! And Mr Farage now by the sound of things...
sonofsanta Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 And goodbye to George Galloway too. Or do I mean good riddance! And reported to the police as well. About the only good news of the night!
Andrew_C Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Joining you will be Ed Balls, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg Oh feck... Three leaders resigning after one election... good lord, Cameron is going to be unbearably smug about this, isn't he? This is his entire after dinner speaking repertoire being written right here. Can someone invent a "Smug tory g!t" filter for the internet please? I don't want to see any pictures slipping through...
AXE Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Anyone want to join my new revolutionary army?... That'll learn 'em. 2
sonofsanta Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Talking with my missus and daughter last night, after voting, and my wife accused me of finding fault with Nigel Farage on every matter because of my personal dislike of him. My daugher then said "I thought you were going to say the Fault in Farage's Stars", and thus was Photoshop fired up. 1

witch Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 We lost our Lib Dem MP by a rather large amount. Very sad, but a combination of a new face and the residual hatred for the Lib Dems over the coalition, fees and the rest of it. The annoying thing is that a lot of people didn't want to vote LibDem as they had got into bed with the Conservatives - we have ended up with a Conservative anyway I can't bear the thought of Cameron being even more smug. I also can't bear the thought of more cuts to benefits and more erosion of our civil liberties. As it is, poor people have less and less chance of getting justice in such cases as unfair discrimination or constructive dismissal as they now need to find a minimum of £1200 to bring a case. But new leaders for the other parties - definitely needed 1
sonofsanta Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Oh feck... Can someone invent a "Smug tory g!t" filter for the internet please? I don't want to see any pictures slipping through... I've got great news for you! With a majority in Parliament, you're now all but guaranteed to get the Smug Tory git filter we've been threatened with these last three years.
Zoom7000 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Thank goodness for FPTP - sending UKIP and their followers tumbling in to the wilderness where they deserve to stay!
zag Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Must admit, backing the winning team does make me feel good. All that talk of "zero hour contracts" and "bedroom taxes" earlier in this thread seems a long way away.

Gatt Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 All credit to to Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP though... She's only been leader for a few months and managed to wipe out Labour and the Lib Dems in Scotland!
Gatt Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Interestingly, the markets are all up as well after the result...
elsiegee40 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Confirmed: Farage has stood down as UKIP leader BBC neews: Mr Farage says he'll take the summer off - but hints he might stand for re-election as UKIP leader. There will be a leadership ballot in due course and he'll consider whether to put himself forward, he says. He suggests Suzanne Evans, deputy chairman of the party, will take over in the meantime Edited May 8, 2015 by elsiegee40 1
sonofsanta Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Interestingly, the markets are all up as well after the result... Only because of the stability inherent in having a clear result; they'd dropped due to the predictions of hung & minority parliaments. They'd have done the same if it'd been a Lab majority, I expect.
