abillybob Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 @ConnorByrne mine did go wrong and wouldn't boot up about 3 times when I tried after some Googling I found out that there was a problem with the compilation of the system.img in the zip folder that was causing the issues and found a fix. Whenever my phone went wrong it was a case of booting it into recovery, clearing the cache and restoring it, booting into boot loader (Fastboot) and then using the fast boot command to add a custom recovery, after this you can use a USB OTG cable and hook up a USB drive to your phone then install the OS from that. I have had a lot of phones that I've made bricks, there's ALWAYS a way to unbrick them, though granted it can take a couple of days to sort out. Last night took me 5 Hours but that was including putting apps back on etc and rooting.

Won't be doing it to my new phone though!
ConnorByrne Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 As much as I hate to say this, I think I will wait a few more weeks after the release date for the HTC M9, once I'm convinced they have ironed out all the creases. That sort of benchmark temp can't be safe surely! The heat that reaches ( you'd have tanned hands) I think once things have cooled down a bit (pun not intended) I will consider upgrading.

Despite earlier moaning about the price of Apple products, I am happy to pay a good whack to get a good phone. I normally keep my phones for 3-4 years minimum. The only new criteria is that I get good spec for my money!

I don't mind paying for the prices, I mean I will probably go onto contract anyway, it's just easier for me that way, but yes your right I mean the money's good so why shouldn't the phone be? You want the best for what you are paying really don't you, which is why the HTC is my choice, I think it's well worth the money, and 43 a month on vodaphone is fine for me when I've been paying 45 a month for the HTC m7! Annoying really!

I don't know just didn't feel that of quality like you'd get with the likes of an Apple or Samsung device. There's just something about them I can't put my finger on them why I don't like them. @Joanne seems to really like her phone. Do you mind me just picking your brain and asking why? Do you regularly root and install custom rom etc? Do you like the feel of the phone? How's the overall speed etc...?
ConnorByrne Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 The last Samsung I had was the s3 and it was okay for a bit, the build quality not so good, and back then I think it only had 1GB ram and did start to slow down dramatically, the new s6 looks very nice but again, Samsung have probably rammed it full of features that aren't exactly used often. And as for Apple... I'm not a big fan... I'm android all the way. And personally I haven't rooted my HTC as i didn't want to risk bricking it, and in all fairness I am happy with it as it is. I haven't felt the need to root mine. The HTC phones feel lovely to hold and use and the speed!... Well mine still runs like I did when it first come out the box! I can't actually think of a fault of the top of my head. They are Brilliant phones. That's just my opinion see what @Joanne thinks. 1

The way I'm feeling now, there is going to have to be a major design flaw (much like iPhone 4 and the antenna issue) that would put me off getting it. I'm not sure I believe this stuff about the temperature. They'd never release a smart phone with a metal case that gets so dangerously hot. Would be shocking quality control if they did! The s6 looks nice, but I prefer the skin on the HTC, and the overall look of the phone. I'm looking forward to getting one in my hands and having a proper play.

Really well actually The problem I had with the phone before with the back cover has been fixed straight away. Took it to carphone warehouse and they replaced it there and then. Now I can full appreciate the design of the phone, the slightly curved glass into the corners makes a huge difference when using the phone and makes it honestly feel like your using the iPhone 6 screen. The weight of the phone is lovely feels heavy but not to heavy to make it feel robust and quality like in the hand. The back plastic soft touch cover also makes a nice addition and the aluminium edges really help with the grip of the phone. The OS is gorgeous and is much quicker at responding to actions than my Note 4 was, I think this is down to it being stock android and I'm already loving the customisation you can do on the phone when rooting it. I love the big screen as well, playing my DS games on a DS emulator is a lovely experience as is with watching YouTube videos. Couldn't be happier with it, think I've turned into a Nexus fanboy now if they keep making them like this, the only drawback I could think of was that issue at the start with my back cover but that hasn't happened on this one. 1
ConnorByrne Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Me personally it was a toss up between the s6 and the HTC m9 I think I have decided on the m9 As Samsung phones is yes very nice but when I had the s3 it was full of unnecessary features and this made the phone slow down so much it was unbearable, and with the massive touchwiz OS it was slow, I've had the HTC m7 for nearly two years and it's still as quick as it was out the box. THe build quality is beautiful and the Sense OS is quite sleek too. It would be nice to try something different but you just get used to some things. And no the 55 ce benchmark temperature I doubt it's true. I have noticed my HTC get quite hot in my hand but it's never burnt through my skin! And that's only for a short period of heavy usage! 1

The only things I like about the Samsung is the quicker processor and better camera (from what I've read). That said, I'm not a professional photographer so I'm sure the M9's camera will still be awesome for what I need.

I did briefly consider the M8. The nerd in me wants the better spec. I'm treat my phones like I do my cars. Spend as much as I can on a handset then run it into the ground!

But the 20.7 MP camera sounds good enough to me, and samsungs is only 16MP which nowadays is standard.

The Samsung will have to blow me away to trump the HTC though. Are you at the point of pre-ordering or are you still going to wait?

A couple of people I know (and one earlier in this thread) have said that after going from iPhone to Android, they miss their iPhone. What's your take on it? I'm just ready for a change. I'm just as excited about going Android as I am about getting the physical new phone.

Spoke to CPW they said because the phone will already be released when I am due an upgrade they can't do it! So don't get the free dot view case either! So got to wait three more days then order it! Quite annoying really. And yes I'm sure I would be happy with the s6 but my question is how long for? Would it slow down like my s3 did, so I'm going for HTC on the 2nd april

I've been android for at least 6 years now, if not more, ever since the very first Samsung Galaxy s phone

Do you like the feel of the phone? How's the overall speed etc...? LOLNOPE!! Why the hell would I do that? HTC Sense makes android a beautiful experience. I would also never risk voiding my £550 phone warranty!!!! Also, aint nobody got time fo' dat etcs etcs..... I honestly do not see any benefit to doing it whatsoever. Only issue I've had with mine is that it threw a bit of a wobbler one day a few weeks after installing lollipop. It overheated, drained the battery and constantly rebooted for a couple of days. I factory restored it and that seemed to sort the blighter out. I've never had an issue with speed either... when I use other peoples devices I get frustrated! I got an android tablet at BETT and it's barely useful because I'm so used to things just opening instantly and swapping app to app instantly...
