Not going to read all 30 pages but wanted to add this if no one else has-

 

I will never ever buy a phone that does not have some form of rapid parallel charging system again.

 

Why all battery devices don't have this I will never know, its completely revolutionised how I use my phone (Oppo Find 7 with CM12).

 

Would be interested to hear how you got on with ColorOS, as I've never used it before but otherwise the phone looks like decent value, also do you think its worth forking out the extra money for the 7 as opposed to 7a with higher resolution and more space and the extra 1 GB of RAM?

And personally I love swipe-to-type

It's irritatingly inefficient. I've practised all my life on keyboards that I press a button and it types a letter. Using an on-screen keyboard is no different, I want to press a 'button' and it type a letter. The time taken dragging your finger from one letter to the next and back across to the next ect increases your time taken to type a sentence by a ridiculous amount, not to mention gets very irritating if your finger slips and it takes that to mean "next word please".

 

It just seems bizarre to me to prefer a method that takes distinctively longer and limits you to using only one appendage to type. On a computer keyboard I use 6 fingers to type quickly and efficiently (specifically both middle and index fingers, plus both my thumbs) - on my phone I use 2 or 3* - swype makes me feel like my search-and-peck typist grandmother xD

 

* If I'm holding my phone in both hands I use both thumbs. If I'm holding it in just my left hand I'll use the index, middle and thumb of my right hand

Ah, I hold my phone in my right hand and use my right thumb to swipe, so the speed of swiping is much better than the one-digit hunt-and-peck of using the onscreen keyboard, which I hate and find horribly inaccurate. I also can't stand autocorrect as I type so many non-dictionary words, and I'd rather slow down my swipe a bit to ensure accuracy than have to keep interrupting my momentum to go back and alter a word to what it should be. Different swipes for different types

 

I suppose I could use my left hand to type, but then I'd end up weeing all over the floor.

Well I'm usually a two-handed texter. I'll rest my phone on my three main fingers, hold it up by my pinkies, and type with my thumbs. So I get around 2-3 characters a second from that. Much quicker than using a swipe motion. Also with a 5.5" screen and stubby mitts, I find it difficult to reach the opposite edge with my thumb.

I'm absolutely loving my OPO. The only criticism I have of it is that it's very difficult to see the screen on a bright day.

 

That said, it might just be bad because it's been so unusually sunny lately!

 

Does anyone else find this an issue?

Are you on Lollipop yet, to get the brightness slider in the notifications tray? That's very handy for adjustments. You can tell it whether or not to adjust to light levels in the Display settings.

 

If you're still on CM11S, the Display settings have somewhere you can adjust the screen brightness at various light levels, so you can boost it if you like.

 

Full brightness tends to do weird things to colours and contrast because it's so bright, and the adaptive brightness occasionally goes mad and dims the screen for no reason at all, which is annoying when you're watching a video.

How are you getting on with your OnePlus? I remember you struggling to justify the cost at first.

Bloody love it. Still feel bad about the silly amount of money, because today was pay day so I had to pay off the CC, but the phone itself is really lovely and much more polished an experience than I expected.

 

Battery life is still a bit hit & miss on CM12S, and there's a really annoying bug with BBC videos (News, Sport or iPlayer) where they blur as soon as the overlay disappears, almost like the lock screen blur, but I'm not the only one to be suffering that so hopefully it will get fixed.

The main difference I have found between Android and iOS is the ability to disable things like this!

 

I agree though, I'm always looking for ways to make the battery last as long as possible.

I would say its a maybe to the 7 over the 7a.

Battery life is less, but with the rapid charging less of an issue. 7a is more phone than you need right now, I have yet to find anything it can't do at speed, games and all are fine.

 

I haven't used ColorOS at all, I have either had Omni or now CM12, still have a few niggles with CM like camera issues but so far its been their best release on F7, speed is amazing!

 

There are one or two minor niggles, more with one handed operation for my child like paws but so far its the best phone I have had and I have had many.
