Don't think I'll bother rooting - never did with my Nexus, never felt the need, and should have even less reason with how tweakable the OPO is. OxygenOS looks like it'll require manual installing, and it won't have the fancy camera app of CM, but OP have commited to supporting it for at least two years, whereas CM is only supported for one more year. So it's OxygenOS now, and live with it not quite being full-featured at first, or CM12S and have to essentially factory-reset to OxygenOS in a year. Hmmm.

From what I gather, if you fall unlucky and get a duff handset you might run into problems with their support. I guess that's the price you pay when buying a cheaper device. I think the OS is about as close to stock Android as you're going to get.

Do you not need to root in order to install OxygenOS? Not sure - it's not actually out yet so no way of knowing, but the OOS team said in an AMA that it'll be a manual update, not an OTA. Ad-blocking is a tempting argument - I tried an AdBlock app but it crashed and did a pretty terrible job all round. I suppose the OPO is going to be about the easiest phone in the world to root, so I might be tempted if you get the AdBlocking going easily enough CM/Oxygen are almost exactly stock Android, from what I can tell, but with loads more configuration options in the menus so you can choose specifically what you want in the notifications, what you want the buttons to do, do you want the battery icon to actually tell you the % of battery left (of course you do why doesn't Android do that anyway)... just little bits and pieces to get it working exactly how you like. 1

I am meant to be moving house shortly and plan to go with BT for my broadband. Or, should I just not bother waiting and order my phone today, it is payday and upgrade day after all, there are always 'better' deals around the corner...

(Due to the OPO not having support for the 4G band that O2 uses)

Although getting 3G at home all the time would arguably be more use than occassionally getting 4G when I go somewhere. While it does arrive with 4G capabilities, in the UK you'll only be able to take advantage of the superfast connection on two networks - O2 and Three. I moved to EE from GiffGaff, who use O2. Hope this doesn't put a spanner in the works for you?! We've been praising the OPO so much, I forget about this fact being on EE now. And it's just one more reason to shift to BT from o2. I need motivation to deal with their customer service, so it all helps.

If only they did things like, oh I don't know, rewarded customers for their loyalty, I might have stayed with them. I've been with them since they were called Genie, fer cryin' out loud. Did it ever get me owt? Did it buttery.

As far as I'm concerned, mobile providers are like energy companies these days - it's awful service everywhere you go, so you may as well go where it's cheap. Hence I'm now with first:utility for the latter, it's not like being with the Big Six ever gained me anything in quality of service.
Garacesh Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Utilities Warehouse for my gas and electric and their customer service is tonnes better than when I was with British Gas. And EE's mobile service has always been good to me (their broadband support has left a lot to be desired since moving house, though, hence why I'm now with Zen)
