ConnorByrne Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm, 5.5 inch screen, and my hands aren't exactly the biggest (I struggled to even get my fingers fully to the top string of a guitar! I have stubby fingers ) but I still had no trouble with it. I'd want to go with something along the 5-5.5 mark again. Yes I wouldn't mind that sort of size but not sure what I'd go for, HTC is great at 5inch Nd then there's the s6 which is slightly bigger. So I'm stuck

I've started something in our house, We used to be nothing but Samsung since the very first 4inch Galaxy phone. But now I've got everyone on HTC I've got m7 GF got m8.

Any help would be most appreciated Yes if there isn't an official update then rooting it and flashing the firmware is your other option, not necessarily the best one though 1

Just remove the wipe command from the batch file and let it run. Edit. The 5.1 OTA can be sideloaded, but you must be running 5.0.1 for this to work. DGardiner Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Im currently using an Xperia Z1 and i love the phone... but it has a few issues all of which are my fault really but whatever. Stock OS - i don't like sonys customisations and the STACK of bloatware, so i flashed it with Cyanogen 10/11 and now 12, rooting the phone initially disabled some of the cameras features because it was enabled by a DRM key, so i get grainy pictures in not well lit placed now - this has been rectified by some patches apparently on the xda forums but :effort: and I'm not all that knowledgable about it and my phone works at the minute so not touching it! unlocking the boot loaders was a pain in the backside also which by the time i got mine was required to root the device as all the hacks had been patched out android 5 is pretty nice, and the z1 gets easily a days battery and if i battery save it 2-3 days! That said, I'm considering moving back to an apple phone when the contracts up later this year just because I'm sick of voiding the warranty to have a stock phone, I'm not too keen on the nexus line for some reason. 1

I've got 512mb in one phone and it's rubbish. 1GB seems to be the sweet spot, least for Windows Phones and Apple - that's assuming your not using it as a laptop, your OS\apps don't have memory leaks and your storage isn't pants. Remember the OS will block running apps from SD cards because of the rubbish performance vs embedded memory. As for galaxy s3, I wonder how it'll perform without the Samsung bloat - remember Samsung is hardware manufacturer, they profit from hardware, so not optimizing code results in increased hardware sales thus profit. Look at Apple, iPhone 6, 1gb.

As for using 1.3GB of ram, what on earth do you have running that uses that?! I've got full desktops using less RAM!

I've got full desktops using less RAM! theres a difference between running and performing... and not much at all, Facebook, audiobook player, messenger, gmail the rest is all system services like nfc. i also would refuse to use a desktop with that hardware also battery advances are great, i would prefer the battery doubled in capacity and stayed that way rather than double the batteries capacity then cut it in half to make the phone thinner at the point we are at now Edited March 16, 2015 by DGardiner

I'm really excited about getting a new handset. Much more then I thought I was going to be. Is there a reviews section of the Edugeek website? I think it would be particularly useful if fellow geeks spent a few minutes sharing reviews with each other. I have way more faith in the views of members here then what I would get in a shop, or on biased websites.

Got it running just the way I like it!!! Just in case anyone want to know I found out there's a hidden LED light behind the speaker at the top of the phone that you can turn on using Root access (I hated the adaptive display thing when you picked up the phone for notifications) plus it also now has double-tap to wake feature like the OPO which I much prefer! Thanks again guys!!!!

Thanks again guys!!!! I'm glad I worked out okay for you, I rooted two phones last year one went perfect the second... Not so perfect. It was nearly a house brick, spent weeks trying to find the correct Firmware and rooting software for this. Glad you didn't have much trouble.
