Well, seeing as a couple up the road from me already have their Christmas lights up I take it that it's now open season for festive threads :)

So, to get the ball rolling, I have a request. Can anyone reccomend decent Christmas crackers. All the ones I've seen so far have the usual boring contents. I want something awesome inside them. Any reccomendations?

Secondly, some advice. I notice the large supermarkets currently have some very good deals on spirits at the moment. If it's anything like last year I'd take advantage of these quick as once December 1st comes along these will vanish!

Get them whilst you can folks.

I've seen come crackers based on classic board games (monopoly and cluedo come to mind) They look quite cool, saw them in Dunelm Mill i think, and one other place i can't remember.

Already? Lord give me strength.

A house I pass to and from work has had them up for 3 weeks already!

What I found odd was last year a couple of people had placed Christmas trees in the Christmas tree collection point on Christmas eve

Make your own crackers - that way you put what you like in them. Kits readily available from ebay. Actually, looking at those prices, be cheaper to grab some from poundland (or similar bargain shop) and do as @NikChillin suggests, and put your own prezzies in.

In Tooting, where there's a fair sized Hindu community, we get dual-purpose non-denominational street lights that cover both Diwali and Christmas - two celebrations for the price of one!

No decorations this year, I doubt. I don't usually 'bother' much with Christmas. Though admittedly I've actually purchased presents this year, which is more than I usually do.. Usually I'm not really able to afford anything.

Still going to mother's for Christmas dinner, but that's more out of respecting her wishes than my own. It's nice to see the family, I guess.

Seen a house with lights and decs up near ours..!

Will be a little strange this Christmas - my partner and I have moved in together the latter part of this year (both of use were living with our respective parents before). My parents are retiring next year, and currently their job comes with a live in house which has been my family home for the best part of a decade. I think my partner and I are spending up until about 10:30 - 11ish together in our house, then this year we're going to our respective parents, then starting next year we'll take turns at my parents one year, hers next!

I'm doing a quiz for my friends again this year - last year it didn't work out quite the way I thought - all my friends are intelligent, educated people but it became obvious that two pairs of "quizgoers" were very knowledgeable and the others were sadly lacking in what I would think was general Christmas knowledge.

This year I shall put some easier questions in and split up the clever ones :)

As for crackers - buy some reasonable quality ones and put your own presents in.

Obviously not for this Christmas but...

Do what my mum tends to do - in January when all the Christmas stuff gets knocked down she goes and buys "expensive" crackers when they're cheap!

January sales are the best time to order Christmas presents that were coincidentally 'out of stock' ;D

Legitly a few of my presents haven't arrived yet because they're out of stock (They probably won't ever arrive anyway, because YODEL) but they should still be here on time.

Stymied by what to get mrwITch. Thought I was being clever by ordering Elite but apparently - and I have no memory of this - he mentioned it to me months ago :(

NO other ideas. Hmmmmmmmm

Don't want to fail - I usually manage to startle him with something cool he wasn't expecting - most recently a quadcopter for his birthday. Last Christmas it was a phone, the previous year a camera.

I'm all out of ideas :(

USB-powered heated Narwhal slippers from Firebox. Bought them for my housemate. Kind of want them for myself.. :D
