Ditto Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Thanks - love these photos. This takes me back - did NZ quite a while ago, over a decade ago. Still have strong memories of it. We got to Kapiti Island which if I remember rightly, we needed a special permit. We had a close-up (probably too close) meeting with a Cassowary. Highlight was probably Kayaking on Doubtful Sound and Tongario Alpine crossing. Oh, and the helicopter ride to The Remarkables where the pilot had to 'fly' the helicopter on the ground to stop it toppling over whilst we popped outside for a few minutes. Oh, and the whale watching and one week bike tour, and the jet boat and .... wow this had brought back a lot of memories! If there was one thing I wish I could bring back from NZ, it is the attitude to protecting the environment, especially in South Island. The complete lack of rubbish in the countryside versus the endless detritus dumped by our locals and a stack load of fly-tipping. Grrr... best stick with the good memories! 1

We have a huge population of red kites near us (having several dozen circling overhead is an everyday sight) and I've always wanted to get shots as good as these.

There were loads at my previous school too (especially just after break/lunch!). You could pretty much guarantee seeing one any time you looked up, so watching them made for a nice brain-break when walking between buildings. We have them where I'm working now too, but not as many.

Very nice shots, keep meaning to head down at some point to see them up close like this. Was tempting to do the 'Landor' photoshoots at Dunfold Park in June and July but didn't get round to booking.

The fact they've been taken off first makes me think they have some value somewhere.

I have fond memories of camping on the airfield at Kemble as an Air Scout. The airfield was a treasure trove to the teenage me, all the historic jets plus a few aerobatic aircraft, including Steve Jones' Sukhoi SU-26 (I was a massive Red Bull Air Race fan at the time!) 1
mikeprice Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 Liverpool Airport is at the end of one of my normal bike rides There are a dozen or so EasyJet Airbus's plus several Ryan Air 737s there that haven;t moved since the first lockdown I presume they plan on using them again but I used to go there and would normally see between 1 and 4 either landing or taking off nowadays - not a thing - just some private stuff and air school things - hence no photos worth putting up!

Bedders Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Narrow boat on a canal near here - Cheshire Ring/Bridgewater Canal. The tower is from Daresbury Labs - no idea what they do there! I've been down that canal! It's great - You go round a corner directly next to the Daresbury Labs and there's a shallow lip that we saw another canal boat run aground on, and we had to help tow them off (God, I've just realised that I did that about 6 years ago... Doesn't feel like it.)
