Also I haven't got the right lens for the DSLR to get a nice shot, although this Friday afternoon we are running some steam vehicles up there for tea time so will see what I can get then.

They're amazing birds, we have loads of them here and I could spend ages watching them - I don't think I've ever been outside here and not either seen or heard at least one. This photo was taken across our sports field one lunchtime - there are over 20 red kites in this image! I've got some nice video clips of them too. I'd like to get better pictures of them, but the best photo opportunities are when the students are here (the kites come down to litter-pick at break and lunchtime) and I feel a bit odd pointing a long-lens camera at them.

Popular Post sonofsanta Posted October 19, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2018 Beautiful morning in Lincolnshire this morning, and I just got a new ultra-wide angle lens for my DSLR (Nikon 10-20mm AF-P on my D7200) that I'm learning how to use. You have got to get cloooooose to your subject to get a decent composition; I actually managed to break the spiderweb below when I moved my camera away from my face, because I was probably only 3-4 inches away from it. I have contorted myself into all sorts of awkward positions to use this lens, and all my clothes are filthy from laying on my front I'm also still amazed by the dynamic range of this camera. That last photo isn't HDR, it's one exposure: I just boosted the shadows up in the RAW file with Fill Light to even it out. This is as it looked out of camera, and you wouldn't think there was anything in the bottom half of the photo! 8
