Ivre just finished redecorating the IT office and got a bit spend happy and bought a cheap 32 inch TV and wall mount, I'm not really sure what I can use it for though.

Anyone else got a TV in there office and what do you have running on it?

In my old place I bodged together a status page for our old Helpdesk system, that we used on an ex-reception display TV. It looked like a departures board and listed open tickets by priority. It would play a sound and flash if a new ticket was opened and would repeat this every 5 minutes until the ticket was read and assigned.

Was quite proud of that! :)

Hmmmm we use spiceworks, xibo and the dude, maybe I can setup a display which alternated between tickets and network map through websites. Think I'll give that a go!

Thanks

We had a TV connected to a Freesat in our old office [before we moved out this Summer] It is still in place in what is now the Reprographics Office. It is connected to a tape, HDD and DVD recorder. The intended use was for fulfilling staff requests for recorded programs: They let us know in advance and we record it to their required medium for classroom use. In the four years since it was set up we had 0 requests for recordings.

I used it one open evening to watch several episodes of Heroes [slow evening]

CCTV Live view?

Only if you turned it off everytime "normal" people came in and only if everyone in the office was designated as allowed to view it.

Good point. I guess I was going off the fact that my office (server room) has one in that no one enters and I'm the only one in the IT dept!

We have one in our base. Got a busted netbook hooked up with sky go app. It's nice to catch up on missed program's when it's not too busy. :D

We have ours with machine using impero on it with mouse control via program called synergy , got a group for monitoring so if we need to fix issue with student/staff we can put them in the group and they will show up when next logged in if need to see what the issue is or apply remote fix. We also use it to play radio in the background

One of our techs wrote a program that pulls in the last 10 open calls on our helpdesk, displays the number of telephone calls into the office so far that day and the number of unanswered ones. It also has BBC News via iPlayer and a scrolling text message bar for important information that the team need to be aware of.

We have 2. One running nagios webpage showing the switch and server statuses and a second showing whatever is on the signage around the school (usually the news)

We have it connected to the digibox, Video Machine, DVD/VCR player and we use it to build machines with too. It's quite nice really to be able to watch the squad announcements/Wimbledon/sports during the day when it's quiet!
