OS X Yosemite will be available from the Mac App Store today

I'm installing on my personal iMac at home and will probably put it on the one that's on my desk at work. It'll have to wait until summer until we put it on the rest of them though.

 

It's annoying that Apple's release schedule puts these things out a month after term starts. Why not a month before?

My Mac is boot camped, seems to worked ok for me. I can get to Windows both by holding down the Option key at boot and through the Startup System Preference Pane. FWIW I'm using Windows 7.

That may be true but I didn't realise my existing server app would no longer work once upgraded therefore I am forced to pay for the upgrade. It may have always been that way but I have only been using Apple products for a short period of time so wasn't aware and thought it may be useful for others to know.

I am still leaving workgroup manager on my snow leopard Xserve with all its storage but I might get a MacMini server for the newer features but not too sure about migrating workgroup manager.

Yes I have updated one of our machines as a test and I am having this issue as well.

Bump. Just upgraded a test machine to 10.10 and BootPicker isn't working. Tried BootRunner. It seems that I can't use it with all of its features without installing a profile on the machines. We don't use OS X Server any longer. Any way to accomplish this?

Just upgraded a test iMac in Music. Everything seems to work fine.. Network accounts working as they should :-)

Sharp have advised those that use Sharp MFD's that drivers may not install of Yosemite or function as expected and have advised not to upgrade to Yosemite yet. Sharp Japan are currently developing new updated drivers for this.

We've been testing this and have made the decision to start a wholesale upgrade right away. The main advantage for us is that it finally fixes the SMB problems when accessing a DFS share. Prior to 10.10, accessing our DFS shares was extremely slow for us and often didn't work at all. It's still not as quick as Windows, but it does at least work reliably now.

Some OS X Yosemite Users Plagued With Wi-Fi Connection Issues

We have discovered an issue with some iMacs where when we have logged in, Finder has hung and we have had to forcibly restart the Mac. When it reboots the progress bar gets stuck at 50% and never gets beyond that no matter how long you wait.

 

The only way to get round this is to reset the PRAM, although in one case even this hasn't worked and looking at the Mac forums it seems Apples solution is to rebuild the machine!

 

Edit - this issue seems to occur only when using network (AD) accounts rather than local ones but I need to look into it a bit more.

Swedish hacker finds 'serious' vulnerability in OS X Yosemite

 

A white-hat hacker from Sweden says he's found a serious security hole in Apple's Yosemite OS X that could allow an attacker to take control of your computer.

 

Emil Kvarnhammar, a hacker at Swedish security firm Truesec, calls the vulnerability "rootpipe" and has explained how he found it and how you can protect against it.

 

It's a so-called privilege escalation vulnerability, which means that even without a password an attacker could gain the highest level of access on a machine, known as root access. From there, the attacker has full control of the system.

 

It affects the newest OS X release, version 10.10, known as Yosemite. Apple hasn't fixed the flaw yet, he says, so Truesec won't provide details yet of how it works.

Signed up for the forum just to contribute to the Bootpicker issue. I set up a 10.10 dev machine and also have issues with Bootpicker not showing up in the loginWindow. Damn shame too, because although it is an old application no other one does it as elegantly and for free. I even altered the OS screenshots to an image of the Finder and Windows icons.

 

I'm aware of rEFIt and Bootrunner. Both of those applications are not suited for our environment. Someone has to be working on an alternative!
