CHiLL Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 The Personal History of David Copperfield - 8/10 I really enjoyed this film. Some great performances and I felt I could I have spent much more time with those characters. Only downside for me was that it felt a little rushed.

LeMarchand Posted February 2, 2020 Author Posted February 2, 2020 The Hunters Was free on Prime and the synopsis sounded dumb/fun: There is a group of people who hunt for fairy tale artefacts to keep them safe from another group who would use their powers for evil. Wish I'd searched for the trailer first, as Michelle Forbes is hardly in the film, despite being first on Amazon's list, and the trailer gives you an idea of how low rent it all is. Although I know almost nothing about Mr Rogers due to his lack of presence in UK culture, the acting is so good that I had a good idea. Hanks is at the peak of his performance portraying Mr Rogers and it was a joy to watch. Matthew Rhys plays an awarded but cynical magazine journalist who is tasked to profile Mr Robinson as a hero, but is unsure whether Mr Rogers is real or just a persona. I thought Rhys' performance was really good and he is actually the main character/protagonist of the film and does all the emotional heavy lifting of the film...and he does it really well in my opinion. LeMarchand Posted February 12, 2020 Author Posted February 12, 2020 Fast Color A few years into the future, there has been no rainfall for years and Ruth (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) is on the run from people who would use her power for their own gain. Every woman in her family has the power to deconstruct objects into particles and then reconstruct them, but Ruth has lost her ability - if she can regain it, she might be able to save herself. Hmmm... I really struggled to stay awake in this, so maybe I drifted off at a couple of crucial bits, but both the world and Ruth's loss of her powers didn't make sense. Not to mention the "rules" of the power and the women's lack of curiosity/exploitation of them. Not an awful film, but very slow and you can probably guess the ending from the two lines above.

It's about two like house keepers in the 1800s, stuck due to weather and how they deal with it. It's in black and white and it's...weird. I think I recommend it, but be prepared for some wtf-ery.

Our Valentine's Night choice. Pleasant enough action comedy, but not one to rush out to track down.

Weirdly Rotten Tomatoes is once again showing it's gulf between professional reviewers and the paying public: The end credits are worth hangng around for as well, as they are done in 'classic' 16 bit Sonic game style. 1

Lots of OTT fun, but a couple of people (yet again) do stuff that makes no sense apart from to drive the plot. Could've probably done with one or two fewer fight scenes, too.
