I normally like Luc Besson films, but this piece of trash looks to be a cut and paste of his favourite bites of Star Tek, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, etc, etc. Also, who told Cara Delevingne, that she could act? Mind you, she is better than Dane DeHaan, not that this is difficult.

Totally agree about DdH, though I thought that (when she was allowed to act, which wasn't often) she wasn't bad. She's surprisingly OK in Carnival Row, too.
synaesthesia Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Joker on Saturday night. Wonderful, wonderful film. Very Scorsese-like, with many nods to those early works and some interesting little nods even to the Dark Knight trilogy. But even if it wasn't even closely linked to any batman film it stands up in it's own right as a damn-near masterpiece. Joaquin Phoenix pulled off what many thought would be impossible, yet at the same time comparing him to Heath Ledger's Joker is like comparing Adam Lambert to Freddy Mercury. They're playing the "same" character but in their own way and it works rather very well indeed.
Dos_Box Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Went to see the Ghostbusters 35th anniversary edition last night. Still great fun with a much cleaned up and digitized picture. Like many films that have been digitised, you begin to see many details you hadn't noticed the first time around. And, like many old films which have been digitized, you see just how some things are ever so slightly out of focus Lots of people took groups of kids who, I'm guessing, hadn't seen it before, and all seemed to enjoy it. If you want to see it, it's doing the rounds up until halloween and well worth a viewing if you haven't seen it in a while.
mavhc Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Exactly how I felt about it too. And so many inconsistencies...eg how would a spaceship designed to take off and land on Mars get back to Earth? Sci-Fi fans are pretty savvy about the science of it all and it is very sloppy to have these sorts of inconsistencies. Especially when at other points they bothered to have no sound in space which most films usually ignore I liked it, apart from the surfing and shockwave thing. The specific question the SF film asked was good. Not sure what you're saying about the spaceship landing on Earth, don't remember seeing that.

No, it didnt land on earth - but a spaceship designed to take off and land on Mars probably wouldnt make it back to Earth Anyhoo Saw Zombieland 2 - Double Tap last night It was good - not as good as the first of course as it is no longer a new concept, but still..a bit of fun. Love Woody Harrelsons character

Farmageddon: Seems like someone in the Wallace and Gromit universe has made a documentary about their trip to the moon. Excellent SF puns throughout. Plus about 4 cases of entirely forgettable pop music. Zombieland 2: amusing enough. Joker: always remember to fund mental illness support.

Been years since i watched it, can say it's just as good as i remeber and one of the best Sci-FI films ever imo. Day B: Yesterday, Wanted to watch this when it came out but i was on Holiday at the time. Finally got to watch it and loved every moment of it! If you're a Beatles fan it's a must. It is a romance film at heart though! Day iii: The Terminator (First film). Same as before been awhile since i saw it i dunno why i chose to watch them the wrong way round! Still a great film in it's own right!!! Going to rewatch Yesterday tonight!

Very hard to watch in places - and I'm not talking about the parts where there's graphic violence. Two more trips to the cinema this week too - the local filmhouse has some classics on. Alien on Wednesday and Wicker Man on Thursday!

Probably the better of the Terminator films since T2, but certainly no where near as good as T1 or T2. They have retconned all previous films back to T2 means that this is a direct sequel from T2. If you are concerned about spending a fortune on a ticket, I wouldn't recommend seeing it unless you really want to...you wouldn't be missing much. If you have a cinema pass, then it's worth a watch I reckon.

Some really funny bits, but on the whole an average movie.

CHiLL Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Zombieland - 7/10 I never saw this when it came out, but since the sequel just came out, I thought I'd give it a watch over half term. It was surpisingly better than I thought - it was a fun waste of time and I can't really complain about it. Zombieland: Double Tap - 7/10 Saw this during half term and much like the first one - it was a fun waste of time. I don't think it was quite as good as the original but I also can't really complain about this one either. Note: There is a small in-credits scene which is worth watching (before the main credits roll).
LeMarchand Posted November 10, 2019 Author Posted November 10, 2019 Murder Mystery Schlubby cop Nick Spitz (Adam Sandler) and his mystery novel fan (Jennifer Aniston, still looking great) are flying to a cheap 15th Anniversary/Honeymoon tour of Europe when Mrs Spitz is befriended by a rich Englishman (Luke Evans) who invites them to join him on his Uncle's yacht. Soon after they meet the family the patriarch is murdered and it seems everyone in the family had a motive, but Interpol make the Spitz's the prime suspects. Can they solve the mystery and clear their names? Poor pastiche of an Agatha Christie style mystery. I was drifting off in the middle, but just about made it to the end. Not awful, but not recommended.

CHiLL Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Midway - 6/10 This film was an OK war film. The action was good (though some CGI didn't hold up imo) and the second half was better than the first. I think it suffered from pacing issues and it was too long at 138 minutes.
