Nah, I mean "Asian" as opposed to "Oriental" (which is probably a racist term these days) and "cop" rather than FBI/CIA/Homeland etc etc. There are a smattering of Chinese/Japanese/Filipino/Hawaiian etc cops, but the only Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lankan etc that I can think of is Saeed/Madhur Jaffrey's daughter in "Sleepy Hollow" - and I think she's supposed to be playing someone Hispanic! I'm making the distinction as when (at least in the UK) "Asian Culture" is spoken of, it seems to be almost exclusively referring to the Indian sub-continent. Probably the best character in the show, admittedly he's the medical examiner but he works for the police.

I'm going to pass on that as an ME is a variation on "doctor" and that's one of the 4 "allowed in Hollywood" careers for Asians. The others being lawyer, convenience store owner and cab driver . 1

I can't think of that many TV programs or films that have them in.

smurfomatic Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Just got back from seeing the Darkest Hour. Great film, very moving and humorous in places. Also a (brief) appearance by one of our leavers from last year, as the child who looks up at Churchill's plane as he flies to France.

Well, assuming that Evil Dead, Dale and Tucker vs Evil and that sort of film is your cup of tea then you are in for a real treat with Dead Snow. The first film's goes along the line of this "Dead Snow (Norwegian: Død snø) is a 2009 Norwegian zombie splatter film directed by Tommy Wirkola, starring Charlotte Frogner, Stig Frode Henriksen, Vegar Hoel, Jeppe Laursen, Evy Kasseth Røsten, Jenny Skavlan, and Lasse Valdal. The film centers on a group of students surviving a Nazi zombie attack in the mountains of Norway. The premise of the film is similar to that of the draugr - a Scandinavian folkloric undead greedily protecting its (often stolen) treasures." Dead snow 2 continues on from where the first one left off.
LeMarchand Posted January 28, 2018 Author Posted January 28, 2018 John Wick: Chapter 2 After a brief prologue in which he retrieves his car (stolen in the first film), John Wick is ready to settle down once more. Unfortunately a debt he cannot avoid forces him back into his old life. Quite fun; I liked the expansion of the hidden world of the assassins. However, it's very ridiculous. John's actions at the end make you think that "if only he'd done that in the first place" and after building up The Continental network it seems to cut it out of John's life. Plus JW, like James Bond, is in a line of work where he should be a ghost but everyone seems to know who he is and what he does. P.S. Realised that this is the 4th film I've seen in the last couple of months with Ruby Rose (the lead henchwoman). Probably won't see another until Statham vs prehistoric shark flick "The Meg", though.

GuyJD Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Downsizing I don't know what I was expecting with this but what I got definitely wasn't it, they could have done so much more with this but in the end it turned out to be a pretty dull boring story without much in the way of special effects to draw you into the tiny world.

Surprisingly tense, especially considering that the bulk of the film takes place on the flight. Let down badly by the heroine having to be saved by her Dad (who has spent most of the film shuffling around in his slippers, asleep or unconscious)after handling everything else on her own. I was amused by Professor Brian Cox look-alike Cillian Murphy playing opposite actor Brian Cox. Actor BC: Astronomer BC: Actor CM: 1
