google is down, The internet doesn't work.

I've had 3 calls this morning telling me the internet is broken.... Nope it seems that google doesn't load. These users could not go to their usual sites like parent mail because google didn't work..... I'm stunned.

 

(I sent them to bing rather than explain everything wrong with them;)

SWGfL have a ticket open on this 4669448 but if it's anything like the rest of the west coast ddos attacks this week I guess it will be working again when whatever attack bot is running either falls over or is turned off...

That is the first question that people ask me whenever they have a problem online - "Is the internet down?". 99.99% of the time, no, it isn't. The individual site you're trying to load has a problem, as it says on your screen. No, there is nothing I can do to get them to fix it. I don't have control over every site in the world.

Bing Is Not Google. I always sent people to aj.com, 'cus it's nice and easy to type. Before browers had the ability to search from the address bar or search window, I always typed yahoo rather than google to save a keystroke. When I discovered aj, I must have saved hundreds.

That's interesting - We've had a number of calls ourselves with Google not working / loading slowly. Seems ok for some but a small few it's not happy.

 

With us now being on Office365, the e-mails I'm getting.... Internet is down... :/

At a school yesterday afternoon that were having some training from an external supplier. HE (the trainer) couldn't get on the internet and shouted that my server must be off! My server wasn't off and he eventually believed me after standing looking over my shoulder and asking if I knew what I was doing! Once I'd removed the blunt instrument from his nether regions I pointed out that he'd unplugged the mini switch that particular room needed so that he could charge his phone (!!!) Cue one smug trainer standing red faced in front of room full of teachers and one even smugger faced me silently walking out of the room!

Maybe the issues are related to Google deliberately serving up manky version of their search to older browsers

"Is the server down?"... no the server isn't down, in the last 8 years we have a couple of hours of server downtime so why do people insist on asking this everytime there is a minor problem?

I've been where I am since January and not once have I had 'the Internet isn't working' or 'the Internet is really slow'. Compared to where I was beforehand where I'd be dealing with nonsense every day, it's wonderful.

Maybe the network's down. I mean, it's always, no sometimes, no never actually gone down before so perhaps that's why I'm having problems on this one computer here.

 

I've seen staff put "google" into the search bar. Mouse clicks all the way, much slower than just typing google.com in that address thing.

Our internet was down.... when the builders on site went through the fibre taking the IP phones too. That was an interesting few days
