Digital Signage

Hi All!

 

Most schools now have an a digital signage system within school on a computer and used on a tv or projector.

 

We have something called SedaO and im not satisfied with it and its a bit clunky so im just wondering what others have used and found works.

We currently use OneLan for our screens. But, to be honest, it too is a little clunky.

We use Tripleplay, which again seems a bit clunky to me.

 

I'm certainly advocating here that we look at Xibo if we decide to change things in the future. Even if it turns out to be clunky then it's not like that would be worse than what we have now...

We have Samsung Signage screens with MagicInfo, It took me a while to get used to it - it's not that bad, bit clunky but works well with our video walls.

 

Xibo is also good as an opensource solution.

Sedna presenter works well, if you have the budget for it. If not, go for xibo.

Slight thread hi jack here.

We use media cast it is pricy, proprietary and can be clunky. I want a replacement.

I have a few questions about Xibo;

Can the users tune into digital TV / record TV?

Can I get the enterprise support over here in the US? (EDIT: doesn’t appear to be)

Can the users browse for media in addition to the signage aspect?

 

Mediacast allows for display of media content in the classroom, digital TV and the ability to record TV. It also allows the teachers to clip segments of a video for their lesson. It also has a digital signage aspect but it isn’t very flexible. They are certainly stronger at the media / TV then the signage.

 

We would like to find a better signage program, but I’m sure some folks would still like to do the media if possible, but it hasn’t been widely adopted by the teachers here.

Signage Live has proved popular with a few schools in our area as it doesn't require anything on the server and can be updated remotely from anywhere in the World as it is cloud based. It has fantastic functionality as well so really worth a look

+1 for Xibo.

 

However, one word of caution - make sure the client machines are well speced as on complex layouts you get out of memory messages and .NET errors if they're not. The processor isn't that important, but it does like a good amount of RAM to play with. I run 10 screens around my site on Xibo with a reasonable spec laptop driving each screen hidden in the ceiling. It's great because I can have different layouts on different screens and control the whole lot centrally, but the best part is it reads powerpoint files!

 

Using RSS feeds and some clever scheduling I even have our lesson numbers come up on the screens at the right times to remind people what period it is, as well as a clock and the date which management absolutely love. This did take a while to configure however but works like a charm now.

hi guys i'm looking at starting to use xibo and i'm stuck at the web server part how does anyone else manage or do i not need this

Have you installed the Client, Server and CMS section of it? there are guides below on how to install and then register clients

does anyone keep having problems on the phpmyadmin when it asks you to chnage root (local host) where it keeps locking you out after you change the password,

also how do you extract the xibo server inwindows i have read the documnetation but still no clearer

I have a solution called LimeGreen which I'm installing into schools with Digital Signage as well as 5-Point Optical Touchscreens, would be happy to provide you with a demo to trial it if you wish?

 

It's been popular due to the cost and it's pretty simple to use, you can create your content in PowerPoint and then export the content as a video file which you the import into the software.

 

Cost comes in around £500 for a 3yr license with the hardware. It's driven by an android player which can be attached to the back of the screen too.

I scrapped Tripleplay about 3 years ago for XiBo and have never looked back. The best thing is, I only have to do the layouts, I have a Wordpress server (internal) that some support staff can post notes which load up in an RSS feed and automatically deletes them after 10 hours :-)

 

One other member of support staff (non-technical) uploads a powerpoint for the other images on there :-)

I've had exactly the same issue this afternoon! Kept being distracted too so ended up reinstalling MySQL service. Will see if it happens again.

i had to reinstall it 3 times cus it kept blocking me every time i changed the login details that it told me to do lol and the instructions are not very clear:confused:

did you use the xampp server i found that easy to setup but not sure how to set the xibo server part up:confused:

+1 for planet eStream it's fantastic and it also replaced click view and xibo. It has a much easier management interface and you can stream live TV and live events such as sports day etc. around the site on the TVs

It is in the the PHP.ini file (you will have to find where that is in your server installation)
