Odd food combinations

Marmite and marmalade on toast is one of my faves..

I was introduced to marmite & peanut butter on toast by my wife.

I think peanut butter and jam or marmalade is better , that or peanut butter and something sweet ie golden syrup / honey / maple syrup etc

Another vote for marmalade as a condiment for a fried breakfast.

 

Here's Personal favourite of mine, discovered by arriving late to a party where everything else had been eaten...

 

Chocolate Fingers and Hummus.

 

By favourite, I mean, to tell people about. Generally I don't choose to eat it, but will now quite happily mix them if the opportunity presents.

I think I take more of an issue with people who carry out, condiment misuse as I see it !

 

I had a colleague I worked with last year, who would have the following from the chip shop when we called there in summer holidays, Large Minced Beef and Onion Pie, Mushy Peas, Chips and Gravy, onto which he would pour a generous helping of Heinz Tomato Ketchup, pretty much coating a large portion of it, it turned the stomach of the cleaning supervisor at the school and a couple of the cleaners (I am immune to a lot of this after working in a hospital, you quickly develop a strong stomach in that environment)

 

I also have a different friend who would have a normal sunday dinner plated up, eat everything on it with a generous helping of ketchup, no gravy at all with his dinner, just a bottle of ketchup, which I found quite alien and not normal.

 

Am I crazy or is this all wrong ?

Another discovery I made a couple of years ago was how nice cold roast chicken (off of the carcass) eaten alternately with a square of or dairy milk chocolate is

I have a problem with it if I have spent ages cooking a nice meal and someone immediately dumps ketchup on it without even tasting it. I find that very rude.

However, if people know they like to smother a pie from a chip shop in sauce then I don't see a problem with that.

Never fry pickled onions, they taste terrible. I tried once when I was making an omelette and didn't have any onions.

My daughter, to get her to eat any food, ketchup has to be present on the plate. She will try with ketchup first as that is the "safe" sauce for her, if she likes it with ketchup, she will try without.

 

Unfortunately she has been a fussy eater from the moment we introduced to solid foods.

 

However, I will always try food before adding salt, pepper, or condiments, and usually, I will have the condiment sauces on a separate plate or small ramekin dish.

When doing my GCSE's I normally came home between exams for lunch and have a corn beef and micro chip sandwich which isn't too unusual but is real brain food

 

I got someone a pack of this as a secret santa present - Special soup

 

I haven't tried it myself but I have heard its an acquired taste

I find skittles and minstrels... two skittles (preferably the same flavour) to every one minstrel. Fruity chewy chocolate. It's genius.

Bread,K+Mus, Ham, Salid cream, cheese, marmite and bread

each complements its partner very well

Haggis pasta bake and Haggis pizza. Next on my list to try is Haggis nachos, I'll feedback on those!

Bacon + any other food in the world is always a good combo

We have clootie dumpling in Scotland and it is like a dark rich fruitcake. I love it sliced and fried with a fried egg and tomato sauce!!!!

That's a semi-regular one of mine - when I fancy a change from brown sauce. Speaking of which, I cooked cheese on toast last night then spread a little brown sauce on the top. It was only then that I remembered @nephilim's suggestion of putting the brown sauce on before putting it under the grill.

Ciabatta bread roll, chicken breast, bacon , avocado, cheese like brie, salt n pepper

 

Mash avacodo with salt n pepper

 

Cook the chicken breast(s) and bacon either fried or however you want to cook them

 

Warm the ciabatta rolls up

 

Cut and Butter the rolls, insert avacodo paste , insert chicken n bacon, put sliced brie on top, close roll and insert into oven or under grill etc to melt the cheese and then serve and enjoy :-)

 

Not sure if the above is weird but defo scrummy !!
