[sims] SIMS and online registration

Hi

 

What is involved in on line pupil registers for SIMS. Is this done via IE7 or through SIMS and if so is any extra hardware or software required?

I have done it through SIMS.net itself - we have a dedicated PC in every teaching room with SIMS.net installed, and the teacher logs into sims and can simply double click whatever lesson they wish in order to mark the kids in or out. It works reliably.

 

I have not tried SIMS through IE yet - I dont think our LEA have actuaklly got the webarts thing running yet.

Currently Capita does not support e-reg using a web browser (as far as i know) but does have something called lesson monitor and lesson register. If you already run SIMS .NET then you dont need any additional hardware. Theres also Sims Mobile Registration which is for PDA but be warned that although its for a PDA, it needs a constant and reliable connection to the network as there is no offline mode currently.

There is a program called 'PARS' which allows this functionality - we have had a brief look at it and it looks like it does the trick.

Attendance comes with SIMS for registration. Lesson Monitor is seperate and expensive initially but allows you to register classes per lesson.

AM / PM registration via the SIMS .net client is still the preferred option in Somerset at present (with Lesson Monitor for lesson by lesson registration)

 

Learning Gateway may be better once the new Web Parts are produced in November, but the current set lack a lot of the functionality available in the full client.

sims.net here using lesson register over 60 workstations. after last update it seems a little slow but i put that down to our server needing upgrading to 2k3r2 and SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 enterprise then add another 2Gb memory to the 2 Gb already installed and should be good 2 go.

I should have said they dont support it current, as far as i know they dont anyway. Every example ive seen has had the web parts your talking about.

We do have web parts that fit in the Learning Gateway that allow teachers to take registers.

 

The client version provides a richer experience and indeed will work over the web. If you want to avoid an installation however the web parts will do the job.

 

Our second generation web parts are due at the end of November.

You need to contact Capita, or your local county SIMS team.

 

Also, posting at half 6 is outside of the usual working hours for most people, so it can take a while for a response.

Yes, many of us do. The only way to get it though is through Capita or via your local LEA SIMS team. It is a complex and costly piece of software, and you must be licensed for it.

I'm sorry but what exactly are you asking for? A link to download SIMS.net? Doesn't exist unless you contact Capita/LEA support, I don't know how I can make this point much clearer!
