  2. Hi I am trying to get opinions and advise as to whether an ITQ/ECDL qualification is of any relevance or use to the roll of an IT/Network manager? If it isn't relevant what qualification is? Also how do you post a poll up? Thanks Alex
  3. I thought you might like the tower unit. Just out of the box and kindly supplied by none other than SCLonline!! Nice spec and all at at a reasonable price. Just got to set them all up now. Might have another order for you soon, watch this space. Alex

  7. Only three more callers to go to get the mug!!!!
  8. Good morning. I don't think the intelligence of the two in question is that low. They have learnt how to milk the system, as most do, and they can get themselves dressed, go to the shops, catch a bus etc etc. Now if they were not able to femd for themselves for whatever reason, well hell yeah, support them as much as they need. They do have life set skills but choose to use them to do nothing of worth. Intrestingly enough there was a program on BBC, Skint, which in my opinion, shows the type of people who do need a helping hand, as they are trying to progress. They have had problems, still make mistakes, but there outlook is positive despite tradegys and knockbacks. BBC iPlayer - Skint: Debt Special have a look. Alex
  9. Just my opinion. Alex
  10. Unemployment does have its pros and cons, for a start you can't get made redundant if you are unemployed, which is a plus and being unemployed and getting into a rut can be very undermining. I am sympathetic to those that are ill, either mentally or physically or have a similar mitigating dispossision, BUT in my experience a vast majority are unmotivated, disintrested and detached from real life. They are blithly unaware that it is those that work that provide for them and in a lot of cases they do not give a damn. I hear the arguments and read the comments and most of them do not hold water. Take for example the case that they live in a high unemployment area or there are not any jobs for them. Well correct me if I am wrong bot about a millioon jobs over the past few years have been filled with eastern europeans, and other ethinic workers who in a lot of cases do live in 'REAL' poverty and that is what motivates them to get off thier arses and do something about it. The main problem is that these people who leach of the state have no reason to get a job, so why bother when the likes of you and me pay our taxes etc which allows them to do NOTHING. I was brought up in a house with four brothers in one bedroom, two sisters in the other and mum and dad in the other, have gone through two recessions, high unemployment, high intrest rates, have been very very ill on a number of ocassions which has left me with permanent disabilities, and the last time I got a job I moved 170 miles But guess what, I have brought up two children and provided for them and they are now at University. So sorry, I have no sympathy with those that are fit and able that leach of society because they can, and then they moan about it. Most do not have a clue about real hardship. I do suspect though that things may get pretty tough in the next year or so???? Alex
  11. What a total waste of space some people are. My take home pay from the council is very near £1000 a month, take all my cost of living expanses from that and I would have less in my pocket than they have. When will the government wake up??? Alex
  12. I've noted the points you have made, and yes I have heard about the groin burn etc :-) It just seems strange that there is not much on laptop H&S on the government H&S site nor on out County Council site :-( So it looks like just using the normal workstation set up checklist? Alex
  13. Hi I was just wondering if any of you carry out health and safety for laptops and portable IT equipment? If so do any of you have links to any info on how to carry this out as my school want me to produce a booklet to give to users on how to use a laptop safely? Any help appreciated. thanks Alex
  14. Well mine came from two sources, the first being my first name and the second being my second name. It originally came from my birth certificate though. As you would imagine it did take some time for me to come up with the user name, although in recent years I have started using italex. Alex
  15. Hi It's great to have won, and i would like to thank my family and friends who have supported me through the season. At times it got very difficult and I nearly threw it all away, but a dug deep and kept my focus. Now that's out of the way, what did I win? :D Alex
  16. Hi I have kept my team fairly static but may tweak it this time to make sure i beat Mr Dyas Alex

  18. A bit of a rant sorry. I know from personal experience the flak you can get when forum members start the old 'look at the money they are making' drivvel. I can tell you that when people say that they do not have a clue and start to lose all respectability. In one breath someone is saying they have the right to say what they want and in the next they are saying the forum should do what they say and the forum has no right to censor them???? Bloody grow up and get in the real world. This forum did not just appear here, it has evolved through lots of hard work given voluntarily. Because of that enthusiasm the site has been very successful and in doing so attracted revenue, although i would imagine it is a small amount. So through hard work and dedication the site can move on with that revenue and whoever runs the site can do whatever it wants as far as i am concerned as although I have contributed to the site i do not feel that I own it. It is like saying I buy my groceries from tescos so i own it as i am contributing to the profits??? Anyhow, this is a free site, gratis, nowt, nil, nothing, now that is what i consider value for money. Alex
  19. What is the best way to set up a bird box camera and enable pupils to be able to view the camera via a live web link. What hardware and software is involved and how do you go about setting up the access so that pupils can view the camera online? would a VPN be the best way? Thanks Alex
  20. If I remember correctly the union to join is either Unison or GMB as I think ATL only have a vested intrest in Teachert and lecturers and do not support TA's or support staff in pay increases etc??? I do know that since the non existant pay rise a lot of support staff and TA's have dumped ATL and joined Unison or GMB for the reason stated above. Might want to check. Alex
  21. We have used CSE to carry out work in the school, mainly installation of projectors and cabling. I don't have any complaints and the quotations were competitive. Alex
  22. Gatt I understand where you are coming from. The positive thing is that you are in a union and 'supporting' others through that. Now I am being devils advocate here: You say you have important things in your life, your family first and foremost. Of course you have to think of them and provide for them. BUT If you accept a pay cut in relative terms, year after year, and lets remember that the government are pushing for a three year 2.45% pay deal, you will effectively reduce your families standard of living over the next few years. As for pay increases pushing up inflation!! Well since I have had a below payrise for the last three or more years that has really worked hasn't it. I can't see inflation getting any lower and to be honest pay rises are not the primary factor in inflation figures. We all have choices to make and if you are happy with your pay then take no action. If you are not happy you have two choices, get another job or take industrial action for decent terms and conditions. Simple really. The other unions that are not striking are perhaps not the right union for you. I know quite a few ATL union members that have moved over to Unison as ATL will support lecturers and teachers to the hilt but have not come up with support this time for teaching assistants etc. Minorities majorites. So now we are saying that you should not respect what minorities have to say? Just becuase a minority have voted does not mean that they are less worthy, in fact that minority may be so low paid that they have nothing to lose? A couple of days pay could be so low that they would not miss it. You could also say that the low turn out/apathy means that many don't mind if Unison go out on strike or not. If the majority had strong views they would have all voted. Finally, we all have choices and opinions, and I repect those individual choices and opinions. regards Alex
  23. You can't. Mind you it would be nice to hear that if there is an increase in the pay award that it will only go to those that have demonstated that they are prepared to take action over their pay and conditions! Live long and prosper Alex
  24. Hi I have varied views over the strike. I am fortunate enough to be in the situation where the pay increase is not that important. I do get annoyed at anyone who moans about their pay but is not prepared to strike for a decent wage? What annoys me even more is those moaners who are quite prepared to let others strike on behalf of them but are not willing to join a union or support it themselves. If you are not prepared to stick up for yourself then why do they expect others to do it on their behalf? So as far as I am concerned is put up or shut up. Alex
  25. Hi I am going to be upgrading the existing server and want to clear as much dross from the server as possible. I am intending to send an e-mail to all staff askiong them to remove any unwanted files from the server. However, the last time I did thios I got several moans and excuses why they could not do this. For example the dat protection act, have to keep files for up to five years etc etc, when in most cases it is just 'dross'. What bullet points can I make to underline the need to clear out old files ready for the new server? Thanks Alex
