I work 8:15 to 4:15, don't usually have a break except for half an hour at lunch time, which is usually in front of the puter looking at edugeek. A little while ago I did a time and motion study of what work needs to be done here. It came out at 54 hours of work per week and I am contrated for 37 with no overtime allowed. Since then my workload has increased further as we have federated with two other schools. So.... when someone asks why something has not been done yet I point themn to my workload and my daily work book which lists EVERYTHING I do. Then I ask them where they could have fitted it in that week. Usually they can't answer as they realise the amount of work I have to do.

Umm, strange. We have the same problem with one of our newer Smart Boards. When it has been calibrated the alignment is not correct. the problem is that when you write on the board the actual writing appears about 2 cm above where you are writing. Never had this problem before and I don't think it would be down to the projector? Alex

How do you configure the proxy server for Windows Vista. Is there different settings for XP Pro and vista? Alex

The laptop is getting an IP number from the DHCP, and I can navigate round the schools network, BUT it will not let me go any further than the network??? I don't know if I have touched a setting on the laptop and this is blocking me from going throuigh the county firewall?? or something similar? To summerise I can log on to the network and it is being given an IP address by the DHCP server but I still cannot seem to go any further than the schools network? Alex

I thought it was about time to get to grips with Vista. We have taken delivery of some laptops that have windows vista business on them. I have managed to get the lap[tops connected to and logging onto the network BUT the network and sharing centre say that the laptop is connected to the network but there is a red cross from the network to the internet?? As I am new to Vista io have assumed that you set up the network connection the same as i have been with the XP Pro OS? Can any onre start to point me in the right direction to be able to get the laptop past just the network connection and onto the internet. Thanks Alex

Hi I was wondering if anyone else had come across this site? http://www.itidiots.com I have looked at one or two of their podcasts/videos and found them informative and intersting to watch at the same time. # They discuss all sorts of things that may help with obtaining MSCE qualifications. The person instructing is actually a MSCE trainer. Have a look and let me know what you think, especially the MSCE cram sessions that they have done. Alex

I saw a little bit of software which is produced by the same company that makes Textease. It is called Podium and is a very simple piece of software that children and adults can use to create and publish on the web podcasts. You may even be able to use your eLC for this? Alex

Here all the upgrades and back up falls on me. Also help with any finctionality problems and have had inout into setting up permissions and acess levels for staff members. Again, not in the job description though! Alex

On a serious note I think this highlights the point that in industry with the MSCE qualifications we could be considered as professionals on a par with our fellow professionals, i.e teachers, and should receive the equivalent renumeration. I have started the Comptia A+ course, but I do not know what to do next. I am a family man so I will prefer to do something where I can begin to earn as I train. The solution: Focus on Comptia A+, then get an MCSE With no previous IT experience, the Comptia A+ course is the best starting point. It will teach all the basic skills required across a number of entry-level IT jobs. The Comptia net+ course, which is a natural progression from the A+, could give you a bit of an advantage over your peers and provide the knowledge necessary to configure and operate a variety of networking products. These qualifications are obtainable through fast-track teaching methods over four, seven, or 14 days, or through self-study, so you would not need to alter your working hours. As a teacher, you could complete these qualifications outside term time. It is definitely worth investing in recognised qualifications so that you can apply for jobs with established firms. Targeting larger companies will benefit you in the long run, not only in terms of the broader experience they offer, but also because they are more likely to invest in your ongoing training.
