I voted neutral. My view is that due to data protection, staff should only ever use their work email for work purposes. Whether or not they can access personal email at work (for personal reasons) should be decided by individual schools, and backed up with a policy to cover misuse. However if somebody higher wants to make the decision not to allow it then so be it (as long as it can be specifically over ridden by the head). However, the really annoying thing is that they have allowed Hotmail, but not others. Mixed messages I feel. I dont see full restriction to work email only as a major problem, for work purposes, but yes it is annoying from a personal point of view. I think LGFL's problem is that they are trying to keep things secure (from a DPA PoV) in an environment where few policies exist and any that do are frequently ignored.

I have been having a lot of problems with the SIMS December upgrade and would appreciate it if somebody could tell me what version SIMS should be if the upgrade has been sucessful (probably 7.98 or 7.99)

Can you run SIMS from the server?

Probably not the cause of your problem, but this is worth mentioning as it is related. By default, SQL Express is installed with TCP/IP disabled, resulting in no connections working apart from direct from the server.

MS licensing in a nutshell. Decide on a nice simple model and then dump it in favour of something complex that will confuse people into paying sky high prices. Work out a reasonable cost level for schools and then triple it before you even consider all the middle men profits. Make sure you have deals with all the software houses (such as Capita) to ensure that all your suckers (sorry, clients) are forced into "upgrading" as often as possible to keep the excessive money rolling in............ Sorry, but as you can tell I think MS licensing sucks when it comes to Schools.....
