Hi,

Our PC/MAC estate is constantly growing but the technician staff number remains the same.

I was wondering what other colleges have as a ratio. (We have 9 techs to 3500 approx. computers).

Any help appreciated

David.

3500 computers!!! Do you work in a University?

We have me (NM) , 1 full time tech, 1 part time and 1 Apprentice to cover 450 computers, 300 mobile devices (including laptops, surfaces and chromebooks).

1 NM 1 ST and our Media Guy who's quickly learning the technical side of things! - circa 350 machines I think.

I think the use of remote software, SCCM and patience (mostly on our part!) helps keep things ticking over, and this day and age (circumstances depending) the careful use of monitoring software, helpdesk etc help keep staffing efficiency stable.

^^Me too!

Just checked, 119 machines in all including 2 servers, plus the usual 17 whiteboards and 19 projectors, and the website.

I think I need a pay rise:rolleyes:

1 NM (Myself), 1 x Deputy NM, 1 Tech (Split between us and Drama) for ~700 machines (Both desktops and laptops) plus all the other stuff network etc.

1 x NM (Me), 1 x Classroom Tech (Term Time Only) & 1 x Apprentice Tech for approx. 500 devices. Bit of a joke really, and they wonder why I'm getting snappy recently! ;)

Just me, part-time, supporting 140 PCs and netbooks, 23 staff laptops, 17 interactive boards and associated AV gubbins and the newsletter

Yes, I agree

I was hoping to see an improvement but it seems not

Mind you, isn't it in the USA where a couple of guys support hundreds of machines all over a county?

1 NM, 1 Network Admin, 1 tech and 1 part-time Mobile Devices Co-ordinator. 600 desktops, 150ish mobile devices. 1 site. Seems normal, borderline overkill.

Me, 2 techs.

500 PCs

1000 student netbooks

BUT I think the tech to PC ratio is wrong to use, Projectors/Printers/Services offered.

Our tech to PC ratio is impressive but then I add the above and... we provide SLG for homework/timetables, RealSmart for interactive learning, Parent Pay for cashless catering, Biometrics which links to Cashless catering/printing, projectors in every classroom, IWBs in most classes, we also prep the halls/areas for presentations.

SLG and Parent Pay is accessed by parents as well so another username/password for them too.

Most of our PCs are also 5-10+ years old and not looked after..

I agree. We rarely have issues with our PCs, so it wouldn't matter if we had 50 or 500. The bulk of our work is from teachers and their continued struggle to remember how to use their laptop and projector.

1 NM (me) and two full time techs supporting over 1200 devices and 30 servers.

We need another network-type person really as my Techs are full on with the desktop side of things and I'm the single point of failure (and also there is too much to do for one person). Hence we're looking for an assistant NM.
