Supernatural / fantasy The Ludwig Conspiracy by Oliver Pötzsch Historic fiction. Maybe one day I can read the original. I also just found this site tonight, it lists good deals and free kindle / other ebooks. Bookbub I didn’t find a co.uk version, but clicking the amazon link and changing to co.uk worked for a few books I checked.
LeMarchand Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Been reading Terry Moore's Rachel Rising, a comic series about a young woman who finds herself resurrected following her murder(?) and then gets more complicated as Lilith, reincarnated witches and a demon are thrown into the mix. Enjoying it, but if I'd been buying it monthly I think I'd have had problems remembering what was going on and with the pace; there are a couple of issues where not a lot seems to progress.

Strangely enough, the Fforde book is also on my "to read" mountain - quite near the top, though. Wish he'd get on with Shades of Grey 2. What did you do?

Eddings masterfully wrote 12 books but managed to tell the same story over and over without it being remotely boring! 2

Seconded - The Belgariad & Malloreon are both brilliant series I also liked The Elenium & Tamuli. I think I've read The Redemption of Althalus at least 10 times as well. (Although I'm not a fan of The New Gods series - they actually bored me a little)

If not, this book probably isn't for you. Obviously someone was hoping for "A Streetcat Named Bob" success, but unfortunately this isn't very well written. I was dubious about the veracity of this "true story", but the somewhat harsh ending seems more like something the publishers might have changed if it didn't happen. The Legend of Kevin: A Roly-Poly Flying Pony Adventure Philip Reeve's latest is one of his "for younger kids" ones, but it's a lot of fun and even made me chuckle out loud a couple of times.
Theldron Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 The Last Days of Jack Sparks audiobook. Really good story written as a diary, narrator was brilliant. Jack Sparks is a celebrity writer who is working on a new book about investigating the supernatural, he gets more than he bargained for. Highly recommended.
mikeprice Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Just got back from holiday - read the first 5 books from the Merkiaari Wars by Mark Cooper then found out that there was no 6th book despite the series not being finished - apparently he is still 'working on it' after several years! so I started The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baker - brilliant - so have also read the Long Mars for info - total books read over whole 2 weeks - 10 plus 2 started but not finished and not including the ones I downloaded and started reading before realising they are just a 'sample'

On closer reading it's not a fight between network equipment... On topic. Just started the latest CJ Sansom Shardlake medieval mystery Tomblands. He tells a great story involving a rather put upon lawyer who uncovers all kinds of plots against Henry VIII. He's also done novels set in the Spanish civil war and a great one based on a Nazi occupied Britain.

BKGarry Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I am currently reading a book lent to me by our headteacher, it is not fiction. It is called "A beginners guide to being mental. An A-Z from anxiety to zero f**KS given" The title does have the ** in there. The author, Natasha Devon MBE does have her own challenges with mental health that she openly writes about. It is not just discussing mental health issues but also speaks about mental health in the same way as physical health and not just about what is wrong in certain cases. Two working days with reading it just after work at home, I am 1/3 of the way through. It really is an interesting read.

LeMarchand Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 The Woman Who Died A Lot by Jasper Fforde Thursday Next is back in action, fighting once more against the evil Goliath Corporation. This time she has an even bigger problem: God is about to smite Swindon. I found this one a bit of a struggle for spoilerific reasons. Maybe it was just me, but it didn't feel as tightly constructed as Fforde's books normally are, almost feeling as if he'd had a few great ideas but didn't really have much of a plot to hang them on to. At this point, I'd much rather have a "Shades of Grey" sequel than another "Thursday" book, but I suspect that he's struggling to come up with a novel full of working ideas for that.

sjatkn Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 I do cheat a little in that I listen to them on Audible, but I 've just gone through a few of the Daniel Suarez books. Starting with Delta-V and then the very graphic but compelling Daemon and it's sequel Freedom (just got an hour to go in this one). The Bobiverse series by Dennis E. Taylor are excellent as is the Expanse series by James S.A. Corey, the TV adaptation of this is quite something, especially in 4K UHD on Amazon Prime Video. 1
azc Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Currently reading Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett after having watched the TV adaption. Previous to that, I read Cunk on Everything: The Encyclopedia Philomena by Philomena Cunk (aka Diane Morgan). That was a bit of a struggle to get through and was best absorbed in small doses and imagined in the character's voice.

Also listened to Boy's Life by Robert McCammon from Audible, OMG that is officially my one of my favorites, amazing story, I was sad to finish it. Moved on to Swan Song by Robert McCammon, wow!!!
