What are you reading at the moment?

I love a good book, yet over the past year I seem to have slipped from regular reading. I'm trying to kick-start it again and am working my way through Dan Brown's Inferno at the moment. I may not be a literary genius or as well 'read' as some of the book reviewers in the papers who seem to slate all of his books at every opportunity, but I do enjoy reading his story's. I find them easy to read and they keep my interest while keeping me thinking at the same time and so far, Inferno has proved to be a quality read. After this, I'm planning on either retrying 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' (which I originally gave up on part way though) or getting a copy of Warwick Davis' autobiography 'Size Matters Not'. I'm always always keen for book recommendations, so what are you lot reading at the moment? Any books worth chucking on the 'to read' pile?

My tastes may be a little geeky/obscure, but FWIW, currently reading Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb after a recommendation, just finished Zoo City by Lauren Beukes, and before that was Pirate Cinema (Cory Doctorow) and Old Man's War (John Scalzi, very Starship Troopers but also very easy to read and enjoyable). Yes, I did buy the Humble Bundle eBook deal when it was available.

 

Thinking I'm going to go back to China Mieville next as well, and read book two of the Bas-Lag series. He's probably my favourite new (to me) author of the last two or three years.

Try Walden by Henry David Thoreau (Out of copyright so free on Kindle/Nook etc.) - the one book I recommend everyone reads.

I'm working my way throuhg the Wheel of Time again, currently on book 12. I had to start all over again though as I'd let it slide for so long that I'd utterly forgotten what was going on! Can't wait to get to the end as i've been reading this series for nearly a decade!

'This Book Is Full Of Spiders (no, seriously dude, don't touch it)' by David Wong. Utterly mad but brilliant horror/comedy - I'd recommend reading his first book 'John Dies At The End' first though.

I recently finished Double Cross by Ben Macintyre, it tells the story of some of the spies turned by British secret service during WW2. Their stories veer from audacious to farcical in equal measure. It's a very good read.

I saw this and thought that someone else had a copy of "Skallagrigg", one of my all-time favourite books. Been trying to track down an electronic version to keep it with me at all times, but it seems to be unavailable.

 

Anyway, current reading: "The Secrets of Pain" (a Merrily Watkins thriller, not some pervy "Shade of Grey" trash), probably to be followed by "Goblins vs Dwarves" by the criminally under-rated Philip Reeve. Also got a couple of Doctor Who ebooks on the go: "The Angel's Kiss" by 'Melody Malone' for when I'm waiting for the missus and "Summer Falls" by 'Amelia Williams' as her bedtime story.

Recommend David Gemmels Lion of Macedon and Dark Prince, very good books, lots of fantasy mixed with a bit of history

Just read "Itch" by Simon Mayo - yes, that one off Radio 2. Definitely a kids' book, but a really good one. Now reading "Genius - Richard Feynman and Modern Physics" by James Gleick. Did anyone see "The Fantastic Mr Feynman" on the Beeb a couple of weeks ago? One of my all time heroes and a true genius.

Damn. No. I'll have to go looking for that. Have you read his own book, "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!". Short but sweet.

 

Currently I'm reading Ian Rankin's, Standing in Another Man's Grave. Rebus post retirement. Like someone else in the thread (sorry, can't remember who), I'm struggling with books at the moment. I've only read one this year - can't seem to get into anything.
