truebluesteve Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 No but we have had a demo of one that is very similar, but the name of which escapes me at the moment! Our finance director is very keen on it but with all the options including the SIMS integration it was close on £4000 to buy. After that there is an annual maintenance charge of several hundred pounds a year. How much is this system?
MatthewL Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 No idea, just curious if anyone uses it and if it causes many issues for Techies. Apparently is connects with SIMS which I guess is a big seller for the schools.
Sylv3r Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 We don't use it but I saw the demo at BETT and it did look very good. We have contemplated buying it, but are put off because of the costs so haven't made a decision yet.
IrritableTech Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Had two demos. Quite a good system and theory has it, should be fairly hands off for my team. We're considering buying, and one of our local primaries already has.
6Foot2 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 A search of the forums turns up a couple of old threads: Link 1: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/90919-visitor-staff-management-inventry.html [Posted: 25th February 2012: 8 replies] Link 2: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/94957-visitor-signing-system.html [Posted: 11th May 2012: 11 replies]
Jobos Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 One of my schools has it and it's pretty much fit and forget. The only time I've been involved with it is when the office wanted to buy more badge printing paper which Misco had for 60% of the cost Inventory wanted. If anyone knows how to print their own staff barcode lables please tell as I've been unsuccessful so far.
john Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 We had a similar thing from Osborne Technology seemed a good bit of kit, I did feel it was very over-priced for the tin, the actual hardware is probably about £5-600 at the most.
MatthewL Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Just really if once it was fitted it is generated many support calls but it would appears its more fit and forget which sounds good to me.
sparkeh Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Well, its almost fit and forget. Issues have cropped up for us from time to time but on the whole the support is good and issues are dealt with quickly. Visitors are generally impressed with it and I have had a lot of visiting heads asking details about it.
lovelldr Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Just looking in to this at the mo... Am harrassed by the head and deputy at our school to get prices for different systems. I imagine that all systems are virtually the same?! I like the sound of this system because of the Sims integration. Means it would save a lot of time with adding accounts... Sparkeh, how much roughly did it work out for you? Waiting for a quote to come back through, but meeting with management tomorrow to go through costings. Way it works in our school in terms of staff, is that we have 2 main entries. One at the rear of the building, and one at main reception (front). I can't see this system working in terms of tracking staff on site, unless we have 2 entry points... Management seem intent on getting it installed just at the reception though. How have you (or anyone else) found systems to work in this respect? I'm asking all suppliers to give quote for getting it working with just the reception, and one with both... So far, I've had Vis-IT Ed come back at just over £2000 for a single PC, since entry, or £3300 for a dual entry single PC. Entry Sign has been £3200 for a single entry multi-pc, £5600 dual entry. This is with a touch screen on both sides though. So far, Entry Sign is looking my preferred choice, as it can be integrated to use the fobs from a paxton access door system we have. Tried getting the Paxton Access version, but we'd need to get all doors networked together (at the minute, muggins here has to go round and manually zap any lost fobs from doors etc), but that came out at nearly £16000, as need to change all the modules on the doors... lol. So, basically just wondering how you get on? I noticed you're from Leicestershire? Where abouts? Which school... Cheers, David
dclifton Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Hi Sparkeh, Any chance you could PM me with the general costs for this system?? Just looking at various solutions like this and any info you've got would be much appreciated... Cheers Dan
JasonOfOz Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 We use the Avery Photo ID system. Whole thing costs £499 that prints out badges for staff, contractors and visitors. Does exactly what it says on the tin!
mark1981 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 We have an RM Network, does this just sit as a stand alone unit that has access to SIMS?
sparkeh Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 We have an RM Network, does this just sit as a stand alone unit that has access to SIMS? Yep, exactly that.
jdoldridge Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 anyone in north east using it? We are. Humberside/East Yorkshire though not quite the North East.
