sidewinder Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Ive got next week off and the last week of August off, the 4 weeks in between I'm in, although I have booked every Friday off as well I didnt think the workload would be that bad, a lot to do but interesting stuff. Now Ive found out we need to change all user accounts so they are the same as the LEA ones, which first requires me to fix the ISA server so a guy can remote in and run a script to synchronise it all, then I have to spend the rest of the holiday working out how to get everyones documents to change to the new username, when the 2 have nothing in common Also got 180 PC's coming, but we have no idea when, so it will probably be the last week or something... Plus I'm (with some help) moving the entire server room around, which means emptying it of 10+ servers and all cables, and then putting it all back again
sidewinder Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Might watch the series of 24 that I have missed so far Your not missing much - the last season was rather crap. Make that every series Incredibly overrated show
Jake Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I must agree on the last series of 24, I found it to be one of the worst, convenient coincidence riddled series of 24 yet. Really does feel like the writers of 24 have lost their way since the early series.
BaccyNet Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 No work for me this summer (the wonders of an ever changing contract) This will be the first year though that I havnt been in over a summer holiday. May pop into the primary in the last week to deploy some software but it's not an urgent thing. I can see hte line of techies wishing to hurt me from here
Guest kerrymoralee9280 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I've got 2 weeks off (special occassion) but no way can I be affording to take them if that makes sense. Got 40 new PC's to build, two new servers, install RIS, install internal VLE, website and intranet, and a whole world of other stuff. The other day I sat down to arrange what I had to do. Then all the staff came up to me and said I need this and that doing! My head is about the explode and I can see this summer failing pretty miserably and me getting a dressing down.
FreeWill Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 My boss and I are in for the full 6 weeks between us, each having a week off (though not the same week). As usual we have approx. 10 weeks work each, but you can get so much more done without users being present.. It's not as bad as the Feb. half term holiday where we were due to have 70 thin clients delivered on the Wednesday to have installed and working for the following Monday.. TNT Decided it was a school holiday so didn't even attempt delivery. They arrived on the Friday at 11am and 60 were in and working for Monday morning.. We've just heard from the whiteboard installers that they are now unable to put in our whiteboards over the summer (had promised it previously) so it's looking like we have 9 IWBs to install too. Add those to potentially re-IP Addressing the whole network unless Netlinc can sort a change request for the router's IP before September and completely redoing the IT Asset register and we are 'busy'. I would hate to be in a slow job
sidewinder Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 My head is about the explode and I can see this summer failing pretty miserably and me getting a dressing down. I wouldnt worry about that. if there is physically too much work to do in the summer, what can you do? Maybe it could persuade SMT to hire some more staff? That the approach I take - I work VERY hard, but if they suddenly push a ridiculous amount of work on me on top of what I already had planned, they cant just expect it to magically be done
Pottsey Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Not sure which to tick. Being paid overtime to come in for 1 week and a bit but its time off for me.
sparkeh Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Three weeks on three off. CC3 is being installed right before I go away - should be fun when I get back...*gulp*
Joedetic Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I've been off uni since the end of may and go back at the start of september. No job...little money left after i bought a dell poweredge server and a cisco switch and some other crap i dont /really/ need. Ahhh the life of a student (NOT!)
bensewell Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I'm in for 4 out of the six weeks. Lots of new dell kit to install and ghost. Then getting a Joomla site ready for a live launch for the new term. I've also got to upgrade our ICT database software and tinker with our backups and sort out some niggles with sharepoint and citrix. Me and the other IT Technician have decided to dedicate a few days to host a van damme dvd party, should be mint. Projector + DVD player + fast internet = fun
katem Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Usually dont work but they're paying me to come in for a week (37 hours) to get some jobs done, so I get some extra spondoolies :-) \\:D/ Already got a list as long as my arm ffs...
plexer Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I'm in today for bt to do some work. Then next week and another 4 days in the rest of the hols. Wii Sports Tennis on a 78" IWB is fun Ben
bensewell Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Must try and get some PS2 time in. I'll book a room out for some"maintenance" and crack on.
john Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I must admit the 360 may be paying a vist to the 32" HD TV we have or the 72" IWBs
