The sage is really old its that old sage don't even have the disc anymore. What i might do is do a exact replica of the machine for backup in VBox then start to get rid of the bumf that is already installed on the win98 machine and then bump up its ram so it flies. I knew it would be a bugger, i've got the box, serial, license but no disc.

I have an issue here. I have a very old Win98 machine that is on its last legs. it runs the accounts program SAGE. I have virtualised it using VMware converter then imported it into VirtualBox as a Win98 VM. It works OK but performance is a bit sluggish as it loads all the old crap up as well. I have no discs to re-install SAGE freshly so was thinking of exporting some of the program files off of this VM then setting a new XP based VM with nothing else on except this old SAGE program to improve performance. Any ideas on how this would be done? I've not done Win98 stuff in ages. I think it need to track down all the softwares dependancies then copy the relevant files over? Would this even work? Simple question. Can ISA reverse proxy content apache on port 80 internally to https: 443 externally. I have a external IP mapped to ISA server. When i test this externally it works fine and is dropped as the rules are not setup correctly. What i want to happen is this: Client -> Firewall -> ISA -> Apache the content is proxied back to the client. I have a SSL wildcard installed on the ISA and the certificate is showing but i'm struggling big time with the web publishing rule. The external IP will be mapped to a seperate server interally. So https://mydomain.com is really http://mywebserver.mydomain.com and reverse proxied through. Please Help! I'm using ISA 06

Hi Chaps, Heres the scenario. I have an internal linux server running Alfresco (Open Source Sharepoint type tool). This is running on an internal IP and the ISA server can talk to it. I need to publish this server which runs on Apache Tomcat to the external world. I have a external IP and our Cisco NAT has a rule to bind any traffic coming into this external IP to forward it to the internal IP of the ISA server. So I thought it would be a case of creating a web publishing rule on ISA. This is where things are going a bit tricky. My ISA web publishing rules needs to do the following: 1. Trap traffic coming in from the external IP and forward it to the internal server 2. Reverse proxy the content from this to the external user. So basically if the user enters the external IP address it shows them the internal IP Address of the alfresco / tomcat server. The problem is that the ASA is only letting https traffic in on port 443 but the internal server is running on port 8080 so what needs to happen is the user enters https:X.X.X.X this hits the ASA, that then contacts the tomcat internally using X.X.X.X:8080/share the web requests are run and the content is presented to the end user using the external IP. When i'm happy this is working i can then register an external DNS. I have a rule already in place but its not working correctly. Just wondering if you guys have any specific tips for requesting access on one IP and forwarding traffic on another based with Linux / ISA 06. Our webmail rule works fine so i'm basing my rule on this but can't seem to crack it yet.

I had the official reply from MS about this so thought i'd share with you. If a linux server talks to AD for authentication then it requires a device cal. For users who are covered by a device cal in the organisation but access the webserver from a non-organisation device they need a Remote Desktop Services license. Users who access the system internally are covered by their device licenses. So a bit clearer but licensing still a bit of a bombsite and looking expenive unless i can get group caching for the Alfresco users.

Hi, Running Alfresco with AD authentication. Our machines have device CALS as we have more users than machines. Whenever a user logs into the system from outside as they are logging on using a device that is not covered by our CALS then i've been inofmred by our licensing people the they will need a device CAL. We can't really justifiy converting our licenses into user CALS. Just thought i'd put the question out there for opinions. Simply puy users login to a website (Alfresco) and login which is authenticated against AD and from there on all there deadlings are with Alfresco and its own internal MySQL database. For this each user who accesses this not using out equipment it needs a license. Now my other option would be to put something like Open LDAP infront of AD as a kind of chaining mechanism so when a user logs in the request goes to Open LDAP to cache the request and the response so after the first login the users will use the Open LDAP data rather than AD data and the licensing issue would be between our Centos Linux server and AD talking to each other meaning one license required? Got a really good project but the cost of licensing could put the dampeners on things.

Hey pete. I'm liking your thinking, but my stock machine at home is amdx2 with 4GB of ram and wouldnt cope, might just get something quad core and transfer a few bits over. Arthur, thanks for the extra advice its worth looking into. I'm planning and swotting in a bit of all VM technology but mainly VM Ware and HyperV.

All looking good so far though Got lots of things watching on *bay but think getting something a bit newer would be better. Would love two quad core xeons but dont have a spare few grand knocking about ;p

Hi, Going to be doing lots of virtualisation training at home over the next 12 months or so and also doing MCTS Enterprise Admin hopefully. I'm after buying a whack off machine to run multiple virtual machines on. Now i can easily get a second hand 4U server from fleabay but dont really want that big kind of thing in my spare room. They are far too long unless they can be boxed into a big tower. Does anyone know or have and is willing to sell / or have contacts of where i can get myself a dual xeon tower based system with lots of ram capacity. The cheap the better. Was thinking something along the lines of 2 * 3.2 Xeon CPU's with 8GB of ram. Should be able to run two or three win2k8 servers on this. Might just need to spend a bit though and got dual quad but know it will be expensive. Any ideas?

Ha ha yes just thought i'd wire up the power button and re-route the vga and audio to the back of box / case and then thats it it would look spot on. Oh yes and add a media centre controller. Sure it would be a cracker. Just dont want to either get a new screen cos it would be loads and i dont really use it except online video watching and it would be spot on to catch up on iplayer and see saw tv and what not downstairs on the 42" samsung...

Hi Got a 1 year old aspire one with 1.5gb ram and 160gb hdd i think? Anyway the screen has gone and the lid hinge gone. Just thinking of using this as media centre job for at the side of the TV. Now i know this might sound stupid.... But could i put it into some kind of case to make it look prettier? Just thinking of getting one of the mini ITX cases and putting the motherboard tray bit in without the other stuff i dont need and getting a vga to HDMI converter. I know it might sound stupid but was thinking i could easily convert this to a boxee box or XMBC. Or at a push Win7 media centre.... What you reckon?
