Hello, I have a few users who cannot use the search function to search their My Documents (which are redirected from the server) If you try to search for something you know exists it just instantly goes to nothing found. The search does work in other locations. I have tried rebuilding the index and that does nothing, the only fix i've found so far is to move their documents to another location and share that out. The search will then work for a little while but will eventually stop working again. Anybody experienced this before? Viktor

One of my users (in fact the headmistress) told me today that all of her documents have disappeared from her ‘My Documents’ folder. Sure enough, they are not there on her machine, or on the server. Each user (on an XP machine) has their own ‘H:’ drive, which maps to their private area on the server (Windows 2003). By opening up the ‘My Documents’ folder, the private H: drive files can also be found. Is there any way that these files could have been misplaced somewhere else through some mappings or something? We have been having major issues with our backups recently so I have a bad feeling that I will not be able to restore all her files through a backup if it comes to that. Thanks for any advice.

Good Afternoon, Our school is looking at how we can manage our policy documents easier, with an online system ideally, so that the governors can approve new policies easily enough. We're trying to find something that meets the following criteria: Template cover page Upload our policy cover page so that it automatically adds it to the front of each policy, just with the title/date of approval changing [*]Approval workflow So that our governors can approve any policies before they are published [*]Embedding into our school website once approved This one would just be a nice to have feature, so that once approved on this system, they are automatically on our website without having to download a PDF and upload it to the website. Do any schools use any such software? Currently we just have Word documents that are used and trying to look for something better. Thanks.

A question for you and your staff: Do you regually (or at all) use the SIMS documentation, either directly the pdf's Capita provide, or via the Documentation button? Have you produced any of your own documentation or materials? Linked closely to another hot topic at the moment...

Hello! I work for a High School based in Leicester and we run the learning platform Its Learning of which we pay for the amount of content they hold for us i.e. a Gig of data may cost us £10. Obviously if users upload lots of Videos and Pictures it costs us more for them to hold are info. I was thinking about setting up an external document server that could be hosted here so all we would need to do then is put a link within are its learning courses to are files on the sever here! this would mean all of the large files we pay a lot to host with its learning are on are server saving us the hosting money! Would anyone know how I would go about setting this up, i've got a spare Windows Server i'm assuming you would need to register an external Domain Name for it so it could be access to add and remove files to over the net? and that about as far as i've got! The users would need assess to some sort of external shared drive so they can add documents to it. Thanks Steve

Does anyone know if we are legally bound to keep and store student documents once they've left? Does anyone keep documents or do you just delete them? Thanks

Certain Pupils netbooks are not syncing their documents therefore they cant be accessed on the network, but the sync button isn't their at all when im trying to sync them??? Any ideas

Hey guys, I am currently working at a particular primary school, refurbishing their network, due to the previous company being incompetent. For the most part I have removed all the defunct and broken scripts, policies and profiles. Everything is now running much smoother. I was doing my usual uniform checks on everything and noticed there were rather large differences in how the folder redirection paths were setup. I have setup new and working folder redirections and those are great. But what I have noticed is the Documents redirection is not uniform across the board. Some look like this: \\Server01\Users\Type\%Username% and others look like this: \\Server01\Users\Type\%Username%\Documents. I have redirected the appdata to \\Server01\Users\Type\%Username%\Application Data\Roaming and setup new redirects for Favorites and Downloads to \\Server01\Users\Type\%Username%\Documents\ respectively. So this botches the layout if they use the first path as I don't want appdata visible to them. They need roaming profiles because of the roaming ability of settings etc but their server is neither here or there so I want tiny profiles, hence me redirecting everything to their home drive. The home directories pointing to the first one obviously mess up the consistency. The effective folder redirection points to "Redirect to the users home directory" which i believe is fine. The issue lies in the fact the paths added to the users H drive when the users were created have not been put in consistently. I have manually changed the path for some users and moved their documents one extra folder deep, but we are talking about 100 more users and I dont have the time on site, or the will power to do it all manually. So my question is this. Can I automagically move every users documents to the new location and change the respective path at the same time? My current thought is setting up a new folder redirection policy to point to the correct path and tick the move contents button and then bulk change the path in the users settings. Is this the only way? I believe it would do this at next log on and I am worried if it did not work correctly it could leave people without any access to their documents and leave me fixing it all manually. If noone can help before end of play tomorrow, I will have to tell the resident IT person they will need to go through it manually when they can. Thanks in advance guys.

On my domain at home how can i keep the shared documents icon in my computer, because it is not there when joined to a domain. Yes i know i could just create a shortcut to C:\Documents and settings etc.. but that isnt what i would like. Thanks Jack

We have a number of users who work on laptops, which are connected to the network and then disconnected when they go home. All users have their own H: drive, where they can store all their private docs which are stored on the server and backed up. However, a lot of people opt to save to the 'My Documents' folder, which is currently not pointing to a server share, so that they have access to their documents at home. Obviously by doing this, those documents are being backed up. The plan is to redirect all local My Documents folders to the H: drive for that particular user, but is there a quick way to do it to avoid having to go to every single laptop and doing it manually? Also, some My Documents folders on some machines can be as large as 5GB which would obviously have time issues.
