Using School accounts and personal accounts on Chromebooks
fiza replied to fiza's topic in Cloud Services
Sorry resurrectiing this one Does anyone know if you set "off hours" to not have restrictions on Chromebooks after school whether Bluetooth can be enabled for home use and disabled during school time? We tried to set it as disabled and hoped that the restriction would get lifted for the "off hours" but it stayed disabled. -
There is an option for pin code but as we have never used it I am not sure how it works. Pins seem insecure to me. The students would have to say the pin to the cashier in order for them to type it in. Other students would find out what it is and then.......

With Biostore we have mainly Biometrics but for those that don't want to provide Biometrics we issue RFID Cards. There are Biometric and Card readers on all tills.

The way we use it; We are a Google school and we have seperate "exam" logins that the students who require word processing get allocated to use for their exams. The Trelson Manager sets up the exam and then adds the student logins to it. The students then login to Chromebooks which are in a specific OU that autoloads the Trelson environment and doesnt allow students to leave the environment. It's not something we install and students can use on a daily basis but students are familiar with word processers and this is just another basic word processor.

We have used Trelson for a number of years now and can't fault it. Speak to c-learning and they should be able to get you a trial. https://www.c-learning.net/what-we-do/software/

We are with Biostore and the product works great. The support has gone down hill since Biostore got taken over by IRIS. The support guys are great but now it is so hard to get hold of them and it feels like the support team has been scaled down but their workload increased! Luckily the the system is very stable and we don't need to contact them too often unlike when we were with Cunninghams but that is another story!!

They did have a flat fee for schools but are now going over to a per pupil cost of £2.20 per pupil per year. - - - Updated - - - We wouldnt be without it to be honest whilst we stay with SIMS. If we ever move to a cloud based MIS we may not need it.

We use Edulink One. Works really well as they have a mobile App. Teachers can do registers on it. https://www.overnetdata.com/edulink-one/

Looking at their website I can't actually see any difference in spec between the 1e and 2e besides that the 2e comes with Windows 10 Pro Education.

We have just had an email from a well known supplier offering Geobook 2E at less than cost price! Wanted to know peoples thoughts on these devices. Was it the Geobook 2E or 1E that came from the DfE? Seem underpowered to run Windows 10 Eduction Pro.

Our case is purely checking emails and possibly viewing or editing docs in Google Drive.
-
Is this back to the "office" network or any network?
-
How long have you had that model though?
-
This is mainly for staff using mobile phones to access webmail and google docs. Some may be using personal laptops.
-
If you have staff that use public WiFi in places such as hotels, cafes and airports how do you protect their connections? Do you install VPN software and if so what is recommended?

We have just noticed that a number of our 120 HP G6 EE Chromebooks have battery bulge where the casing is now curving. These Chromebooks are just out of a 3 year warranty by 3 months. Has anyone come across this before? We don't really want to be replacing Chromebooks at the 3 year point when the Google support expiry is June 2024.

@hellgate24 @RobD Thanks both. I disabled smartport but initially it made no difference, I then administratively switched the affected ports off and on again which then did the trick. Has been stable now for a few days and devices are connecting.

Not surprised as they seemed to be winding down for some time. Didn’t play much but at least I will get a refund!

So Google Stadia EOL has been announced as 18 January 2023. Dear Stadia player, On September 29, 2022, we announced that the Stadia service will be shut down on January 18, 2023. We’re getting in touch with important information on what this means for you as a Stadia player. Availability Stadia will remain available for gameplay until the service is shut down on January 18, 2023. During this period, you will have access to your game library, including Pro games if you had an active Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022. Be aware that publisher support for games may vary, and it’s possible that your gameplay experience may be affected during the shut-down period. Refunds Google is offering a refund to Stadia users for Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Stadia Founder’s Edition, Stadia Premiere Edition, or Play and Watch with Google TV Package) made on the Google Store, and game purchases and add-on purchases made on the Stadia Store. The refund process will take some time, but we expect to have the majority of refunds processed by January 18, 2023. We expect to be able to automatically issue refunds for a substantial portion of transactions as a credit to the form of payment used to make the purchase. For purchases that we are not able to automatically refund, you will receive an email with details on how to obtain your refund. Transactions and subscription fees All commerce functionality (the ability to buy games, new subscriptions, add-ons or in-game purchases) on Stadia has now been disabled. Users who held an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022 will not be charged for access to their Pro library or other subscription entitlements during the shut-down period. Historical Stadia Pro subscription fees will not be eligible for refund. Your Stadia account and data You will be able to export your Stadia data, such as profile information, game stats, social data, save files and captures from Google Takeout until the Stadia service shuts down on January 18, 2023, after which point your Stadia data will be permanently deleted. You can also delete Stadia from your Google account at any time or delete your Google account entirely. Please note that deleting your Google account will result in deletion of all data and content in that account, including emails, photos, and files, and may increase the amount of time it takes to receive a refund of your Stadia purchases. Google may however retain certain data, including transaction data, for up to three years following the shut-down of the service for the purposes of processing refunds and providing customer support. More information is available in the Help Centre, which will be updated as new information becomes available. The Stadia team

We will be in the market to purchase some laptops and I was wondering if anyone has used the DfE "Buying for Schools" site where they list approved frameworks? We normally go to 3 suppliers and ask for quotes but the frameworks provide access to over 100 suppliers so we could potentially get better pricing. Just wanted to know if anyone had any experiences with this?

Hi just tried that through the GUI as I have no idea about the commands I would need to use with the CLI but made no difference.
-
Hi Michael - I have sent you a PM.
-
No we didn't. We ended up manually installing windows and then using PDQ to deploy all the apps.
