Thanks all - I think this started to work but it just gets stuck on 'Defaulting to user installation because normal site-packages is not writeable'. Then comes up in yellow that the connection was broken and has timed out connecting to 'pypi.org'? I've added that url to Smoothwall but nothing...

Hi all, Has anyone managed to actually get Pygame working correctly on a school network? Students can't access CMD so they can't import the libraries that way. We have PyScripter however, when I go to run it in 'remote mode' it just hangs when I enter the install command. If you've managed to get it working, how?!

I do agree - Windows 11 is just another stop gap for what was already a great OS (Win10). Windows 10 had it's caveats but was solid. I do see our school and Trust moving over at some point, just not now

This is true about compatability! Thankfully, being on Dell equipment, almost all of them have TPM. Most of our kit are also on Intel Core 8th gen+ bar maybe a few dozen on 7th gen. Going to wait until 22H2 and see if that changes the game!

Hi all, I'm the IT Manager at Twynham School - Do you know if 'it's the thing' to start getting devices onto Windows 11? When Windows 10 came out, we really jumped on that but we've held fire on this one. All our PCs in the IT office are on Win11 but I'm just reluctant to move staff and students over... I assume you can do things like Sysprep in Win11 but what about the start menu import changes as I know they're now based on JSON? I did attempt making an image when Win11 very first came out but it didn't go very well haha! Many thanks!

Hi all, We're in the mists of a crisis where our Music department are adamant that they use Macs for one piece of software called Logic Pro. The network is primarily Windows. We're currently using the Apple Server (now macOS Server) on a Mac Mini inside a 1U rack but we've got to the stage where they no longer support 'Golden Images' and updates beyond Sierra. I need a new solution to get the Macs up to date but needs to tie in with our onsite Active Directory. The team that orginally designed the Mac network has now left and I've now been left to pick up the pieces! Are there any good solutions out there which are cloud based that are easy to setup for an enterprise network? We just Jamf school currently but I don't think that'll quite cut the mustard. I've trialled Jamf Pro, but that's overally complicated! I'm hoping you'll all say no! Thanks

Hello world, The Tech department have ordered a bunch of Chinese branded Ardunio boards (yay...). We've installed the Arduino agent which essentially does the 'handshake' between the board and editor. We're using the web editor version. When we plug the board in, the COM port is detected and am able to choose the right board (Arduino Uno). When we go to upload the script (one of the example scripts on the editor) it starts to upload but just gets stuck. I've contacted their support but they've been useless and their forums are just as good. Has anyone had any experience of these or know any URLs I could pass through our Smoothwall! Thanks x

Hello world, Just a query if anything for the most part - Our Smoothwall got an update last Thursday and we've found that since at 10:20am each day our internet goes down for 2 minutes. Looking at Smoothwall when this happens it states the gateway has gone down. We use pfSense as our Firewall and this hasn't been a problem since that update was released. We're using the update Leeds-42. Any thoughts/ideas? Kind regards, Ben

[sims] Solus breaks with latest Workstation Patch
Benjaminbl12 replied to FragglePete's topic in MIS Systems
Refer to this: https://support.capitasoftware.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sys_kb_id=79c77d6a1b6bd094676cdb12cd4bcbc5 Re-download the patch from the 30th and redeploy to the users that didn't work. Ask your data team/officer first though as they might still be working on a Census and it might cause conflicts if you do a mass deploy! Learnt that ALMOST the hard way… Thank god for SQL backups! -
[sims] Solus breaks with latest Workstation Patch
Benjaminbl12 replied to FragglePete's topic in MIS Systems
Hi all, I installed the latest Census patch from the 1/10/2020 which was a database patch. I was told on their article that this should resolve this issue but I'm getting the same message pop up with the version on the clients solus as 0.0.0.0 Do I need to remove the target fully from Solus as well? -
School Cloud Parents Evening - Smoothwall Turn UDP Error
Benjaminbl12 replied to Benjaminbl12's topic in Educational Software
The fact that we need to open up all those ports is a frightening concept to be honest. Just opening UDP up fully on an enterprise/school network makes me shiver. I've made a new group rule on our pfSense firewall to allow these ports and addresses and can confirm this works. -
School Cloud Parents Evening - Smoothwall Turn UDP Error
Benjaminbl12 replied to Benjaminbl12's topic in Educational Software
I did and I've been to that article by School Cloud. We shouldn't need to unblock all those IP Addresses... There must be a different way around all this! -
Sorry all for not posting about this! Turned out that it was also included inside a patch so after running that it still worked and did the same thing! Cheers!

Hello all We've got a parents evening this week and we are using School Cloud's Parents Evening video service. We are using Smoothwall as a filtering partner but when running the test, it fails on Turn UDP Connection. I've so far unblocked the following: global.vss.twilio.com sdkgw.us1.twilio.com global.twilio.com twilio.com Smoothwall so far have suggested to make a GPO exception (*.twilio.com) however this can't be the case for all schools using this system and Smoothwall surely? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ben

Hello world! I've got to apply a SIMS Fileset patch however, when deploying it the darn thing fails. Checking the logs, it states about SIMS not having parameter entries in the username or password? We've never needed this before which confused me. Is anyone having the same issue - For refernece it's the 1604-Statutory Returns Summer 2020 Fileset. Cheers all!

Hello world, I was wondering if you could help me find or if you know of a solution for students to self register themseleves in. Does SIMS Capita have one or are you aware of any other services which link to SIMS which could do that. Students also have to be able to scan their RFID card to search. Thanks in advance!

Hi all, We got a call from our data office wondering why the system didn't run. After looking at the room booking log it states the following: "Could not locate Settings.dll in \Please check SIMS is installed.". Looking in the location where it's installed, their is a Settings.dll file under it. Could anyone shed any light about this issue and if you've had a similar case? Thanks, Ben
