Search the Community

I have, either bravely or foolishly, volunteered to design and host a Church website for a Church that currently has no electronic presence (beyond a Yahoo e-mail address). I'm planning static information pages, rolling news stories, group mailing lists, calendar with events, and possibly to look at podcasting sermons later on. The most important bit is that it isn't tied to heavily to one individual (me or anyone else) such that the website folds as and when that person leaves the area or becomes too busy. I mostly have experience with Drupal which I'm not sure will do the job with a lot of hacking (specifically around the calendar/events issue), and Wordpress- which possibly will. Despite great plugins and a auto-updater I'm not sold that this is the best solution for this type of site (although many do use it as such). What I do use has to be free, Open Source, and should ideally have a reasonably strong community offering plugins and support so if I'm hit by the proverbial bus life (for the website at least) will go on. I'm not scared of a challenge and learning a new system, but it must be easy to maintain and update once in place. Have you any suggestions or practical experience to relay for a project of this type, both technical (the right CMS, features to try and those to avoid, good plugins) and human (how to achieve user buyin from a diverse community). On that note, the Church is outward looking and has a diverse range of ages and backgrounds, so this may impact the choice of style and design. All comments appreciated.

Hi all, We're in the mists of a crisis where our Music department are adamant that they use Macs for one piece of software called Logic Pro. The network is primarily Windows. We're currently using the Apple Server (now macOS Server) on a Mac Mini inside a 1U rack but we've got to the stage where they no longer support 'Golden Images' and updates beyond Sierra. I need a new solution to get the Macs up to date but needs to tie in with our onsite Active Directory. The team that orginally designed the Mac network has now left and I've now been left to pick up the pieces! Are there any good solutions out there which are cloud based that are easy to setup for an enterprise network? We just Jamf school currently but I don't think that'll quite cut the mustard. I've trialled Jamf Pro, but that's overally complicated! I'm hoping you'll all say no! Thanks

Hi all I need to buy some headphones for our computer suite (30 machines). They need to be cheap (budgets being what they are!) but robust enough to survive being manhandled by 4-11 year olds... Does anyone have any that they are pleased with and could suggest/recommend? thanks very much!

Hi Folks, every year we purchase devices for our Yr5's, they then pay a little every term and own the device after 2 years. This year it appears Net-books aren't as popular (judging by availability). So I was wondering what people are using. We use Google Apps but don't really want to use Chrome books. We have the office suite available via 2X/Citrix but I find this a pain to use on the iPad. There doesn't seem to be central management for Android devices. Essentailly lots of pros and cons for each device and no obvious winner. Is the MS tablet robust enough for 9/10 yr olds? What does everyone think? Thanks Darren

Customer Feedback for Windows Phone Found this a short while back and it allows you to suggest of vote for new or improved features for Windows Phone 7. Each logon gets you ten votes that you can spend in blocks up to three at time on any suggestion. I spent three on a native RDP app with support for TS Gateway So if you have a Windows Phone device, are thinking of getting one, would like a better platform to use or just to provoke more competition submit your ideas for smarter smart phones.
