Wever taken down all our ActivBoards and purchased Prowise 4K screens for each classroom with the PC module built-in. It will also accept inputs if you need to hook up something to it too. They are great. We have accounts for Prowise Presenter too and the teachers really get on with it.

All of my servers are Virtual. So easy to bring back up in case of failure. Would never rely on physical only.

Laptops work for us quite well as the teacher then takes it away to do planning, takes it home, etc. We have Prowise TV's in each classroom so they can hook them up to the TV if needed.

Sad times indeed. These shows were briliant. I now have kids and they love Postman Pat. Quality TV.

Teachers randomly asking for apps to be installed after theyve all been setup does my nut in! When they didnt answer the countless emails asking for software they required on them. Shuv the ipad where the sun dont shine!

So I think nearly every school has had someone in SLT come to IT and say "Ooooh shiny Apple iPads, we need some. Go buy 300 iPads". Has it worked out for you? Yes I think they are great tools for research and there are some good apps for creativity but the whole process of booking ipads, staff randomly not taking responsability, ipads put back in the wrong trollies, people unplugging the charging trolley, people messing them up, iPads getting broken even in hard cases.... I spend more time running after blooming iPad issues. Your thoughts?

They are either going to haveto have a re-think on how the room is used or plan somewhere to store a bunch of trollies / charging units.

That seems crazy then that you were not consulted on the room build. Youll be needing to put a Wirelesss access point in there surely too? And not having any power in the room doesnt make sense. Are they seriously going to be moving 120 laptops everytime the room needs to be let out? Have they planned charging trolleys and where will these be stored? These are all questions you need to put forward to SLT and to find out who is going to be the gimp that will be ferrying all these trolleys backwards and forwards? Unless you can build some sort of charging walk in cupboard where staff have to return them each night then you really need power in that room.

I was exactly in the same position as you. You need to begin by familiarising yourself with the network, try and find out how things are connected, who has access to what, and what services you have/contracts with outside agencies, eg. backup. youll probably find naming schemes, passwords, etc are all over the place so start slowly and begin to do things logically. We had different users with different login usernames, eg surname.firstname, just their firstname, etc. Try and get things the same accross the site. Dont try and force everyone to change overnight. It wont happen. Do however spot whats wrong and what needs changing and gradually make it happen.

Another vote for Spiceworks. Very customisable and you can host it yourself for even more customisation.

I think I'l skip this one thankyou. Its just not worth the upgrade.

I was wondering if the great minds of Edugeek might be able to help.... My wife suffers from epilepsy and just recently my 4 year old son discovered her fallen in the kitchen unconscious. Thankfully I was just round the corner but you can imagine the trauma that all this caused. I am trying to find a sollution for my children to contact me if there is an emergency and Im not around. I'm not keen on mobile phones as 1) the child wont understand the unlocking mechanism, and 2) the mobile phone may not be in the same place every time. I wondered if there exists a home phone that can always be located in the same place where my son can go and just press one button and it calls me. It has to be simple to use. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

We are trialling using an iPad with MirrorOp. You install the sender software of the PC. License costs about £7 I think.

Ive never had a problem with Netgear switches. Does the job. I picked up 3 128 port managed switches a couple of months back. Running perfectly.

Simple switches? managed switches with vlans? Do you require POE over any of these? I like the Netgear managed switches. Simple and effective.

Like you I inherited a rather interestingly? built network. Fibre linked two switches accross adjacent buildings. Fibre to Ethernet convertors at each end. Turned out one of the fibre to ethernet convertors was faulty, completly killing the connection.

We used to have this issue. Are roaming profiles turned on? These cause more problems than sollutions Ive found. As well as clearing the profile from registry, make sure the user is completly out of the system and then remove the profile from the server. Also delete her c:\users folder too. Reboot. Try logging in again after that.
