  1. We use AC Pro access points but this is affecting all machines. Wired or wireless. Everything goes down, including our phones. - - - Updated - - - We use Schools Broadband so have an Openreach Fibre FSP 150 that then goes into a Mikrotik RB 3011 router. Will give this a go.
  2. And it has started again...... After a whole week without any problems....The random Internet cutting out is back again. It has happened atleast 5 times today. Random times. Lasts about 3-4 minutes. Can ping router, but nothing on the Internet. Tracert stops after router. I cant work out what it could be!
  3. Thought I'd update this thread with what I've done with my Dell 3190 laptops. Didnt want to pay to get them onto a Chrome managed system and as we just wanted them to be web browser machines then I have used Proteus Kiosk. Porteus Kiosk - free and open source kiosk software for web terminals. This has let me lock it down as a sort of kiosk so nothing gets saved and can customise it well. Boots straight to Chrome web browser and that is all they get access too. Students can then use the web to access their homework platforms etc.
  4. Thanks for this, but I've now found a sollution that is free and works for me. All I needed was web terminals for my users so Porteus has solved this. It's like a Kiosk system so easy to customise too so users cant change anything.
  5. So I've just finished testing Porteus Kiosk and it is great. No need for licensing and it boots straight into Google Chrome. Have been able to customise it too. Perfect for what I need.
  6. These are student only laptops and all go through our filtered Internet connection. I've found a version of Porteus that creates locked down kiosk style machines so going to trial that today.
  7. I can see it makes sense to buy the licenses but as I basically need just web browser machines I think I’m going to try Porteus Linux install. The plan is to use the dell laptops we got handed to us during the pandemic. Unfortunately we got the slow hard drive ones and generally low spec so Windows just crumbles.
  8. Thankyou. Do you have to buy licenses? We use GSuite free for eucation and wondered if there was a free version?
  9. Hi all, We are beginning bto have more Chrome OS devices and wonderd how best to manage them. The school is currently using GSuite. What is the best way of getting all my Chromebooks setup, limit options, user restrictions, etc so that it can be panned out to all Chrome OS laptops? Thankyou.
  10. Same as you.... Renewal in January. I cant work out how Im going ot be able to afford double what I'm currently paying. Might have to start buying candles and lighting a fire if it keeps getting this bad!
  11. I currently pay £114 dual fuel per month and my renewal is coming out at nearly £220 per month! Way out my budget! Really going to have to do some digging to try and get a cheaper deal.
  12. It is indeed the little things that can often have such big consequences.
  13. I've always found facilities to be good to me in I.T. and once they know what to do and not do then they actually help by making sure all is well. Teachers on the other hand, I wouldnt let them near it. It will become a junk yard for all left over crap from their classrooms.
  14. Been a customer for about 6 months now and very happy. Whenever we've had an issue tech support have been on it and resolved it.
  15. Well the staff that were off sick are now back so I think that rules them out. No bridges being built nearby. We do have contractors in resurfacing the flat roof but they arent anywhere near anything I.T. related. I am going to file this one as unexplained mystery.
  16. I can thaknfully report we have not had any issues now for nearly a week. Yay!
  17. A few practical tasks, for example disable the ethernet/wifi adapter and ask them to sort it out, ask to troubleshoot why no signal on the monitor, ask them to check why no internet access, etc. A couple of priority questions thrown in too, who to go to first, how quick something needs doing before the lesson gets disrupted, SLT not being able to print, etc.
  18. Cube Backup is one I've looked at using. https://www.cubebackup.com/
  19. OK, so thought I would follow this up... So for the past day we have had a stable Internet connection without any problems. Now the only thing that has changed is that there are 3 staff currently off sick so I am going to be monitoring them very carefully when they return.
  20. Thankyoufor your help Paddy, It is very appreciataed. I've checked Mac of routers gateway and going to wait for it to go down again to compare. Just checked the ping -a on our gateway and it doesnt show any other machine listed, just the IP so hopefully that rules that one out. It is definately a pain to be diagnosing thats for sure! It doesnt help when staff are putting on the pressure too and coming out with things like "well when I'm at home i just reboot the router. Have you tried that". Oh my! Happy Monday to me!
  21. Yes, so it shows the routers IP address and then the next hops are all starred out timing out. I did do an arp-a from the domain controller a few seconds ago when it went down and for the gateway address it says type: dynamic and the MAC has stayed the same when internet is up or down.
  22. So it's just stoppped working again. I went on to the domain controller and in cmd did arp-a This listed a whole list of IP addresses and their physical addresses. I could not see the domain controller listed there. Is that normal?
  23. It's just gone down again now. So I cant ping any external site but can ping router and domain controller. Tracert to google.com displays "request times out" on the second step after router default gateway.
  24. I think that is unlikely as I can still access all network resources and server. The problem affects everyone too, wherever and however they are connected in the building.
  25. Was installed in July and was working fine until now. I can ping the router and my domain controller, but cant ping any external websites. No VLANS.
