What do you do when the Address/Port section is greyed out on the "LAN Settings" tab, but has the correct proxies listed under "Advanced"? EDIT: I deleted the preference and recreated it, pressing F6 before I clicked on advanced to put in the proxy exceptions and that seems to work.

Has anyone managed to get this to work? Whenever I apply the IE10 preferences, nothing happens. It doesn't apply them at all... I can't find any errors or anything - other preferences seem to apply fine no trouble. I even tried making this the only policy object to apply and it makes no difference.

Bad... not really. Pointless... definitely. There's so little that actually works for the interface it's practically pointless. The next office version isn't Metro based (just looks that way), the RSATs aren't Metro based, I've been using W8 as my desktop OS for quite a while now and the only Metro app I've used is the Remote Desktop app... and even then, I don't know why. I've used SkyDrive a few times as well, but tbh I was quite happy just using the website before the app.

it's also weird how many USB drives fit into a network port...

What diagnostic lights do you have on the machine? Are any of the capacitors fat, bulging or leaking? SX280s are notorious for that. -

Impero: Are You Responsive
DrPerceptron replied to DrPerceptron's topic in Network and Classroom Management
hmm, I'll have a look at the Secure Assess thing as that is installed in some places (but I don't think its only those machines). I'll probably raise the ticket in September though, I'll fix it as best I can over the summer and see how it goes. -
I suspect this should probably be a support ticket, but I figured I'd ask here anyway Since we upgraded to 3502, about half the machines just vanish out of impero, if you go poke them with a stick the contents of serverip.txt have been changed to These are machines that had previously appeared in Impero as online and running the 3502 client. Anyone have ideas why it's broken?

I wish you the best of luck with that. I did that a few weeks ago with just a single departments provision of PCs... so spent a day moving it around. Then was told we want these really really good PCs to go where they won't be supervised, need CD drives, but don't have etc etc. In the end... everything's basically back where it came from and I am very not happy.

Yes it will do as far as I can remember... but I think you can also change the security permissions on that key and that should stop NSS/RMT from being able to modify that value. It's been a long time since I've used NetSupport School so I'm not really sure. Try it out on one machine is all I can say
-
I believe there's a regkey you need to change to make it work... NetSupport remote control of a machine changes a key somewhere which then screws up some DirectX based applications. I thought the problem had been fixed in newer version of NSS though. Open the below registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\DCI Change the Timeout value to 7

SAN kit purchased, no turning back!
DrPerceptron replied to MrWu's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
We've split off SQL Databases and Exchange Databases into dedicated RAID10 groups, then use another RAID 10 set for all the Host OSes. I don't see that it complicates things etc, but it does mean that you need to have some extra disks over creating one giant 'super group'. -

Disk performance is usually the performance limiter... I was told that a single physical core is usually good for 6-8 virtual cpus. But obviously what you're making those virtual cpus do all day will also determine how you dish it out. The majority of our virtual servers are at least 2 core and we're running around 10 per host. -
[for sale] 35 x Dell OptiPlex 745 USFF with 17" Monitors
DrPerceptron replied to smarties11's topic in Classified Adverts
I think the whole design for the x90's is much better. Granted they'd be bloody brilliant if the cover extended and joined the locking mechanism underneath. It's also worth noting that Dell are nearly always happy to support out-of-warranty products. -
Is just restoring the content from an Impero Backup (in the zips inside the Backup folder) enough to restore an Impero server to a working config as it was? I'm honestly not fussed about restoring the inventories, logs, recordings, violations etc.

Have a look at MDT 2012. It's free and will greatly extend the features/use of WDS. It should get you around the lack of driver injecting in WDS as it will do it itself.

IT are one of the only departments who, if you leave them with a problem long enough will fix it. Very few people hassle us here, the odd person wanders around, but everyone knows where we are and the magic we have. Everyone will always assume you're holding onto equipment - especially if you have broken stuff on display in a public area (ie: hanging around you). We've since moved it to places that are significantly less visisble and that's been cut down heavily.

Sitebeam - A full insight into any website has an online service that'll just scan over your website (upto 10 pages for free) and let you know what it thinks about any cookies you're using etc. It has other services which are pretty cool too and worth checking out to produce a fancy presentation or report to SMT if you were that way inclined.
