I want to record some amateur music at home and burn it to CD. What's the easiest way to do this - preferably with free software. Soundtrack produced to be used at a cremation.

Got an XP Pro network. I'm having a browser problem on one PC - tried to install Google Chrome - works fine with my account but using the PC with a student account no Google Chrome and neither is it visible in programmes.This explains IE 8 issue on the same PC where things like Flash Player doesn't seem to work sometimes. Looks like there is a general setting in XP somewhere I need to reset - any suggestions please?

Umh - just tried to download VLC player and Sophos pops a message up telling me: Location: dl2.cdn4-downloads.com/lm/cdn/VLC_32.exe Access has been blocked as the threat Mal/HTMLGen-A has been found on this website.

A question I'm frequently asked by teachers is, why is it I can run Windows Media player at home but when I try on school computers there is no sound? I know this is something to do with Codecs but even though I have tried downloading and installing various ones the problem persists. Apologies if this is posted to the wrong Forum!

Any recommendation for a PAT test unit the one our caretaker has is a shoe box sized yellow coloured job wheras the one I see the electrician using at my other school is a much bigger machine. I suspect the one our caretaker has can't test the 100 miliamp earth bond.

I have just been trying to change our slideshow on our site added a 4th photo with text file this comes up just as desired. Leaving the first slide but changed slide 2 and 3 plus their corresponding text files. Slides 2 and 3 come up with the old photos but the new captions. Defo the right pictures for the new slides in the folder and the system created a new thumbs.db file - I renamed the old slide show and FTP'd a new folder with just the text files and 4 photos in and see that the thumbs.db file was created in the process. Any ideas please? Tried it afresh in google Chrome and it's fixed itself. Odd, refreshed IE8 several times over many minutes.

Anyone out there using Merlin in any way with Parents and Carers yet - we are looking at it and wondering how to go about it; how much effort to put into it etc.?

Reviving the thread to ask if any other Primary Schools are doing Silver Surfers courses if so any guidelines available please? Another problem I see ahead if we do do it is the fact our ICT Suite is kitted out with pretty smallish stools - which play up with my aged frame so thinking of some likely more elderly types suspect they would be far from ideal H&S wise!!

Take a lot to justify a £500 spend on it I suspect. I certainly couldn't put up a case for one!

Misco seem to have a good deal with the Acer X390 - just wish I could find a laptop with as good a spec processor for The SIMS3 kit I'm looking for! Might have to go desktop in the end for value I suppose?

My old Dell GX280 is on the way out and it currently has The SIMS 3 on it. I'm looking for a recommendation for a good value Laptop to replace it with. Min Spec 2.4 GHZ processor, at least 2GB RAM, 128MB Video card at least a NVIDIA GEForce Go 6200 or Raedeon mobile 9600.

Hang on boys World economies are in a mess the UK isn't badly placed in the league of thinks (Ireland, Portugal etc.) and that's because our Prime Minister and his team who represent us are getting a grip and have a plan toward getting the UK back to things as normal. If Brown and his cronies hadn't done things like squandered North sea oil revenues, sold off the Gold reserve and messed up pensions then maybe slagging off the team who are trying to correct the mess might be in some way justified. Like it or not they are our Government and the least we should be surely doing is showing them support. They have enough to do without constantly having to fight a rearguard action, the elected opposition is there to keep them in check. They surely don't need the added pressures brought by underhand despicable behaviour to so called journalists from the gutter media.

Them was greyed out in print preview my old beauty, when it's something you don't regularly encounter and the little grey cells are toward the older end help is more often needed.

Yep that was sort of it - thanks elsiegood. I was accessing it from Print Preview but looking at your reply got me to thinking there must be another way. Page layout / Print Tiles gave me the same as from Print Preview but this time allowing me to select the row to be repeated.

I'm trying to print a 2 page athletics club register out of MS Excel 2007. The first page is fine - has, header, the column heads and all expected records but the 2nd page has the header the colums heads are missing and for some reason the details from line 4 is repeated as the first row. When I go to Page Setup / Sheet / Print Area, Print Tiles Rows to Repeat at Top and Columns to Repeat to the Left are not accessible?

That of keeping our network secure and the fact that there are other providers operating (local college for example) who might be miffed at a Primary school offering this.

Primary School. Our school action Plan included running a Silver Surfers course for the community. Our New ICT Coordinator is keen to take this forward. I have pointed out the obvious pitfalls I can see - the Network is for the students and secured as such and that the Local College already caters for Silver Surfers but it looks like we will be doing it. Unless I can put up a convincing argument against it? Anyone else encountered this and if so either stopped it or indeed got it working successfully. If the latter how did you work around log ons etc.?

Hey budgester, I don't know about other people who posted to this thread but I'm certainly not at all offended. You argued provocatively and well. I'm from a dairy farming family, was home working on the farm for 4 years before joining the Royal Air Force 'to see the world' and I'm not a vegi but my OH and youngest daughter are. The former almost vegan having suffered breast cancer in 2001 and convinced that the breast / prostate cancer argument portrayed by Professor Jane Plant in "Your Life in Your Hands" has been dairy free ever since. Youngest daughter just doesn't like the way we get meat. As the clip from the OP showed there are still very inhumane practices going on and it's surely good that we who enjoy free speech are made aware so that we can do something about it if we care. So, yes this is a technical forum but it's also a fabulous vehicle to get messages in front of a heap of other folk who might be interested. I'd certainly have missed becoming aware of the Smithfield activity if it hadn't been put up here.
