Thanks duly given - answers as ever much appreciated. At least I can now clear up this particular PE Teachers perception that it was something I had done in setting up her iPad! We will in the near future be migrating to O365. Very interested to see the above. We did opt in for the initial offer by SWGfL for 'free' migration but then they ran into 'issues' with lost folders and binned that. Next we opted for the paid for service by them but they ended up cancelling our PO as again things proved too difficult. With great assistance from other Forum members I've not been able to crack it myself so had approval to buy in migration and have been astonished by both the feel I have had for the level of competence by some quoting and also their price range which for a total of 130 accounts has ranged from the low hundreds to a staggering £4.5k!

Since we had iPads now some 18 months ago we have noticed an odd issue when it comes to mail messages on the devices. SWGfL is our ISP and we use Easymail. Sending Easymail when in school is straightforward and not a problem. However, sending from any other mail account on the devices results in the message hanging in the outbox and it won't go till away from the school network. Conversely, sending say from a home network with any non Easymail account is fine but with a Easymail - this is the really strange bit, if it's to someone on the same domain no problem but to another domain again it hangs in the outbox and won't send until opened and resent when in school.

Yikes! That counts me out then. No other way round this problem?

Thanks @plexer Yes I've run speedtests and all looks to be about right for a FTTC connection. We went on this about a year ago now and it's been an ongoing problem since - I think it probably was with our previous connection as well! The network seems to run fine otherwise it's just when the teachers try to run YouTube direct that the stuttering happens. Showing my numptiness now no doubt but is there any way of caching the YouTube footage so that when they want it it's sitting there waiting for them rather than needing to be live streamed?

We are in the South West grid area and signed up to the SWGfL Fiber to The Cabinet broadband. All seems to go well and the network runs smoothly until occasionally teachers have stuttering replays of YouTube videos. Happened yesterday when a teacher was trying to run a YouTube for schools video from her iPad via Air Server. Thing was there was very little other network traffic at the time so it should have run smooth as silk. Moving forward what are our options to ensure we don't suffer this ituation in the future?

I don't agree with your point of view @Galway - I'm from a farming then Royal Air Force Police background and as my wife frequently points out tend to swear far too much. However, I pride myself (I think) for having an Edugeek record of not having sworn once on the Forum in the now 10 (I think) years I have been a frequent flyer.

I wish Mavericks hadn't touched our system - no advantages that I have found but a lot of PITA such as the flipping 'keychain' pester thingy. It was trying to load itself onto our Mini Mac Server last month till I told it where to go!

Since our Macs have updated to OS Maverick they have been 'horrid' slow and grouchy. Opening Safari is ok but then clicking on any embedded URL's brings up that horris spinning thing and you have to go into Finder and kill it because it's unresponsive. The keychain thing is just totally annoying and won't go away - what on earth is that all about? My Art teacher is beginning to prefer using Windows!! Seriously, we run through a Mini Mac Server that's currently running the older OS - is there anything we can configure on the mini mac to try and sort these issues out?

One of our many Assistant Head's came to me with a persistent Easymail issue this morning. She uses a school iPad and the built in mail accounts - one of which has been set up with her Easymail settings. If she is using the device in school she can send to both other staff and external e-mail addresses but when on external wifi she can send to staff but not to external e-mail accounts. Odd - any thoughts on this please?

This sounds lik great news. Impero has certainly been one of my best purchases as a NM in a EDB school. So many things we have been able to do with it - Impero even came to the rescue recently when a graphics driver update fouled up and even though there was no output to a monitor we were able to roll the driver back with Impero. Exam lockdowns perfect as well. Needless to say im a big fan.

False economy not to have Air Con in a server room nowadays as far as I'm concerned. Most run on a heat pump inverter system now as well so come the cold season it continues to keep the set temperature. Worth getting a recommended fitter to do the work though. We had a fly by night put Air Con into a Food Tech room a couple of summers ago. For the first year the teacher was off sick and the room hardly used. Come the time they switch it on it didn't work and my Air Con man had a look at it only to find the install had been botched and all the coolant had evaporated! Needs servicing for H&S reasons six monthly as well.

False economy not to have Air Con methinks. I know you have a very tight budget but I had a similar situation (no meltdown) a couple of years ago. Nice little air con unit fully fitted for under £2K and since then the rooms been at a nice 21 degrees with kit happily running in a practically dust free environment and no screaming fans.

So - what to use now then?

Anything with Sarah Lancashire in nowadays seems destined to be good viewing. I reckon she must be on for an award with this one - I missed the earlier episodes but last nights viewing was excellent. Mind my fav of the moment is Fargo.

Did have no plans to go in but yesterday had a teacher who just couldn't make it through HT without a laptop (he'd managed to kill the newish one issued to him) so in I went. As you do when the opportunity arises I did a bit of tidying up and brought a laptop home to stick a replacement HD in as well.

Funnily studying the new and old in the OP to me it looked like the first and last letters had been fattened - slightly. To see the real change demonstrated in the post by @Arthur I was astonished (easily happens nowadays ) can't see any point in the change and I wonder what shed load of money it's costing. Change for change sake!

Fair point Elsiegee40 but despite the fact that many of their candidates are already unelectable they still get elected by the pin the vote on the blue rosette syndrome. The 'I've always voted Conservative' blue rinse brigade. The whole electoral system is a crock. That said I don't know what could be done to make it better. The Lib Dems beat on about Proportional Representation (which comes in several formats) but unfortunately the stupid 'Party List' system thrust upon the Country for recent European Elections is a real heap of poo. First past the post would even have been more meaningful.

My 16 year old daughter is a fabulous student and she holds a very low opinion of Shakespeare - often wondering why students are force fed 'classics' when there are far better Author of modern times who would make much more useful and interesting case studies. As to Gove - why can't this man stop interfering all the time. He is gong to go down in history as the Secretary of State for a education who did the most damage to UK education ever. About time Cameron sacked the guy and replaced him with someone who can implement their so called party policy of leaving teachers to teach etc.

Crikey, just gets more and more complicated with every update doesn't it. IE 11 is getting picked up and rolled out with automatic updates now. Or at least it is in my school. We blocked IE 10 but so far 11 seems to be behaving.
