  3. Hi, I know this isn't the correct forum to post this on really, but the smoothwall forums won't let me register (just get a blank page). This is a just a long shot to see if anyone knows if/how this can be done. I have a smoothwall express box with the zerina (openvpn) addon installed. I have created three roadwarrior connections (host-to-net) on a subnet of 192.168.3.0/255.255.255.0 and am hoping to create more as time goes on, but I was hoping for a way for the roadwarriors to be able to communicate with each other. They can all talk to the smoothwall box and everything behind it, but cannot talk to each other i.e. roadwarrior one cannot ping road warrior two etc. Does anyone know if it is possible to do this? Hopefully I'll be able to post on the smoothwall forums at some point if no-one knows here. Cheers.
  4. Anyone think they could do this without damaging it? Haha. I think I'd rather send it to apple... Bleeding Edge TV 190: How to Replace Your iPhone Battery | Bleeding Edge TV
  5. no I understand his complaint about people trying to sell you stuff. Am on my way home from bett now and was annoyed by the constant inturruptions while simply just walking past stands. It was just like walking through a town centre and marketers stopping you as you are walking through. It's offputting as I didn't want to browse too much for fear of being questioned for the 100th time. If I needed help, I would have asked for it LOL. Anyway other then that, I enjoyed it.
  6. Not had any problems with citylink before personally, though from reading the reports on the ebuyer forum regarding citylink, I was very tempted to not use ebuyer at all. The driver putting a "we called when you weren't in" card though the door without even ringing the bell or knocking on the door complaints are far too many to not contain some degree of truth. And paying for next delivery is pointless in some areas as it never arrives the next day and trying to get your delivery money back is futile.
  7. You need to get people to link to your site more. The more links that have the name of the school as the link title and links directly to the website, the higher up you'll end up being for that search term (i.e. the school name).
  8. He is right, have a browse around the site, do some searching and googling, it's surprising how quickly you pick it up. And don't be afraid to ask what might appear to others to be silly questions, anyone on here will tell you the amount of silly questions I asked in my first job just to be sure what I was doing before progressing
  9. I was not aware of this and thanks for the info. However I worked for two primary schools for a year and a half as their IT technician and due to the limited budget of primary schools I still have the "if you can do it legally for free, then do it that way" motto stuck in my head. Plus I'm impressed with the functionality of smoothwall (I didn't need it, I just like to play with it), but that logmein product may prove useful at a later date, thanks.
  10. Lol. Basically wireless G was too slow and didn't have a long enough range for us. So I "upgraded" to wireless N (big mistake by the way... I've never had so many incompatibility issues - I know it's still in draft mode but wow). So anyway, any devices around the house that are by themselves are either wireless N already or have no reason to be any faster then wireless G. However there is one "group" of devices all in the same location that need to be on wireless N. Rather than dishing out to buy a new NIC for each of them, I have decided just to buy a wireless N card for the PC, buy a switch and have them all utilising the wireless N card on the PC. I appreciate that them being used all at the same time would degrade speeds but I still believe it'd be better than all operating on wireless G. Plus I want to stick with the wireless N NICs that I know work... I've had so much trouble getting all the different wireless N equipment to talk to each other that I'm scared to buy any more now it case it doesn't work with my current wireless N equipment. To be honest, I wish I'd waited until it was no longer in draft mode. And then once I've got the network in this house sorted out, I want to set up a couple of VPN connections using the smoothwall box to other family members houses basically 'cos I like fiddling
  11. No, I only really want one DHCP server which is either going to be my smoothwall box or router (I haven't decided yet). I had considered the above method of effectively having two different networks but that creates unnecessary work when making changes which affect the network as a whole. I know it's only a small home network in comparison to a corporate network, but it's actually bigger then most home networks and growing all the time with all sorts of devices which now require internet access and with my limited budget and the fact that other members of my family see it as my responsibility to pay for any networking equipment, I'm having to do things like this to get it all working as fast as I want it to lol. But I'd rather it was bridged to be honest. I'm also waiting for a reply from a LUG member who thinks there is a different way of bridging them, so I'll see how that goes Thanks.
  12. Tried that yesterday, I couldn't get it to work. But thanks
  13. Hello all, Does anyone know how to bridge a wireless network connection with an ethernet network connection in ubuntu 8.10? This is for my home network and the machine I want this to be done on used to run windows, and it is really simple to bridge the connections in windows. However for several reasons we now need to use on this machine ubuntu and I cannot find a way to do this. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers
  14. I personally find trolls fairly amusing at the start... it gets old quick though. Though if yesterdays said troll really wanted to start an argument on this forum he should have mentioned something along the lines of microsoft being the best software company in the world and windows being unbeatable in both security and reliability. That usually does the trick fairly well.

    Ie 7 error

This I believe is an incompatibility with a certain flash version. I just got rid of IE7 and stuck with IE6 on all our machines that have the problem at work.
  17. Do you have any scripts running which affects a certain format of image, like PNG images for example? I had a similar problem caused by a script which was supposed to allow transparency in IE6 on PNG images (IE6 doesn't support PNG transparency).
  18. Had and used this idea already... extremely funny

  20. During my A-Levels one of my units we had a supply teacher for most of the course due to staff illness. He informed me that the interim deadlines throughout the unit were simply guidelines and that it was unnecessary to hand your work in at those deadlines to get it checked if you felt you could use the time it was being checked to continue with it. So basically he was saying it wasn't compulsary to do this. So this is exactly what I did and when the final deadline arrived and the work was marked, I was asked why I missed the interim deadlines as my work would have been marked a B but was now downgraded to an E due to missing the deadlines. I did inform them that I'd been given incorrect information but this made no difference, I ended up with an E for that unit which affected my final grade at the end of college.
  21. I have the same feelings. Several months ago while looking for a job, I submitted my CV to an organisation in PDF format, thinking they'd appreciate having it in a universal format (I doubt very much they need to or even should edit my CV). When I phoned them they said they couldn't do anything with my CV until I sent it to them in DOC format. I was a little amused by this to be honest.
  22. I'm trying to think of some ideas that maybe we could do with our VLE and/or network over the christmas period. In the past at other schools I've seen and done the basic stuff like a simple script on the VLE/Intranet to create a snowfall effect or using software like BGInfo to change the background across the network to a festive theme. These are old now though and everyone seems to do the same thing. What other ideas do people use?
  23. ISA is generally good. I have one of those, but as I only put money into it and rarely take money out, I didn't bother to check my statements in detail for quite some time. Eventually I signed up for internet banking, saw the amount of interest I was getting per month and almost fell out of my chair.
  24. Just a quick question for those who live in Somerset... do you know how good 3 mobile coverage is down there generally? Particularly with regards to HSDPA, however if the voice only coverage is rubbish then I know that HSDPA will be too. I know there is a coverage checker on their website, but I'd still rather I got information from people who actually live there as I got told once that there was only one mobile service provider in somerset that was actually half decent with coverage. Thanks in advance.
