I'm thinking the reasoning behind doing it is the same as why any of us do anything more than necessary to our home networks 1. for the novelty factor of it and more importantly 2. for the learning experience and 3. For testing. I personally would love to set up a cluster server, however the electricity bill would put me off.

Ugh... an unnecessary amount. 1 x cable modem 1 x smoothwall express box (in server rack - wired) 1 x linksys wireless N router (used as an access point and switch) 1 x belkin wireless access point (for testing) 1 x file server running XP pro (in server rack - wired) 1 x test server running windows 2003 server (in server rack - wired) 1 x desktop PC running windows XP pro - wired 1 x laptop running XP home - wireless 1 x laptop running xp pro - wireless 1 x laptop running ubuntu - wired 1 x laptop running windows 98 (don't ask) - wired 1 x macbook air - wireless 1 x G1 phone 1 x iphone 1 x xbox 360 - wired 1 x PS3 connected to main TV for movie streaming off file server - wired 1 x epson inkjet printer - wireless 1 x HP laserjet printer - wired 1 x 1TB network storage drive - wired 1 x internet radio - wireless 2 x 8 port switches And then over the VPN connection to another family members house... 1 x cable modem 1 x smoothwall express box - wired 1 x linksys wireless N router (used as access point and switch) 1 x laptop running XP home - wired 1 x ubuntu box for TV streaming - wireless 1 x epson inkjet printer - wireless DLink print server Had to make use of ethernet splitters in the first house as the modem is downstairs, the smoothwall box is upstairs and I need to have a switch downstairs, with only one ethernet cable linking upstairs and downstairs. Haven't mentioned specs because it's impossible to remember them all and they are constantly changing. There is a load of road warrior connections to the VPN as well but I doubt they count.

Thanks, JPenn for the software ideas. Yeah, I had expected that, but thought I'd ask anyway. As you say, screencapture software isn't something I would really want to use unless I absolutely had to. Cheers!

I've found loads of programs that will convert video/flash files into SCR format, but is there anything which will do it vice versa? Cheers

Quiet at work? -
Every few months I ended up in after school for a fogotten piece of homework - usually French, I had no patience for that subject. Also got kicked out of one lesson once (english) for falling asleep in class. The teacher was reading from a book for half an hour and as I could happily do that myself as opposed to having my teacher do it for me, I started to dose off with my head in my hands on the desk. What I didn't realise is that I'd started to quietly snore and the next thing I knew, I heard the teacher ask if anyone had a camera and her and the whole class were staring at me and giggling. She said if I fell asleep in her class again, she'd kick me out. Then she resumed reading the book so naturally I fell asleep again. Ended up being kicked out 10 mins before the end of class. Also had lines for "forgetting" my PE kit on a regular basis. They got around that one in the end by making me wear lost property which had been there for years, stunk and as I'm really quite tall, it didn't fit me.

I knew it was photoshopped, and poorly as well. However it is still amusing IMO

Hey all, I'm looking for some open source software which will generate php forms which will send results to an e-mail address. I know these are easy to create manually, however we have quite a number of these to create and it's getting tedious. I've used software that does this off sourceforge some years ago now, but I've tried to use it again recently and it seems it no longer works with the latest version of PHP (it was last updated several years ago). We preferably want something which creates forms with some kind of eye candy style to them rather than just plain text boxes and not much else - saves us having to do it basically Cheers in advance

And you can do ad hominem attacks on a forum

I would guess by saying that she feels there isn't much else she can give. She will have very little influence in their lives considering their young ages. They won't remember that much of her by their late teens - that has got to hurt her more than anything. So this is something she can do which will make a difference in their lives.

Oh dear. I predict a sudden shift of topic

I feel bad for her, but its her sons that I feel for most. Did anyone see any of the wedding at all? I saw little bits and while she was all smiles for the camera, her sons looked like they were the ones dying.

We had this problem too. This is what I've always done and it's fixed the problem 99% of the time.

Agreed. I spent months looking for a suitable open source DTP program a few years ago and this is the only one I came up with. Couldn't find anything that ported from pub files though, only forums full of people moaning that they wanted it. I also remember an article of the scribus site saying it was next to impossible to do it. Things may have changed though since I last looked.

I don't think anyone is trying to defend him. I'm just trying to point out some things which most people don't seem to think about - all they see is that a family has been killed when there is more to it then that.

I tend to agree more with this. Do you get punished for your crime, or the consequences of your crime? If no-one was hurt or killed and he'd simply been caught driving carelessly, people would be complaining the sentence was too harsh. Yet his actions were the same, just difference consequences which he didn't have any control over. How many of you have spoken on your phone with your hand to your ear while driving? If you were honest, I'd guess most of you have at some point. Not a major crime really. Yet if you happen to be in the wrong place and the wrong time and hit and kill someone due to your lack of attention on the road, you are the most evil person in the world, even though your actions were the same. I'm not excusing what he did, I'm just saying look at it from both points of view before making a judgment. I think people tend to jump on the bandwagon in cases like these intending to destroy any quality of life that person may have left because of a mistake he made that so many people have made before him, it's just that most are lucky in the fact that their actions didn't have such severe consequences.

Maybe if they purposely "broke" the search feature

One about religion?

I agree. I use it both at home and at work, extremely good firewall and filtering. Really simple to set up as well.

Common questions for an IT techs job include: - What is DHCP? - What is DNS? - How to add a network printer? - How to add a PC to the domain? - How do you see the full ip configuration details for all network adapters of the PC you are using? - How to get a program or document to open up automatically when the computer is turned on? - What is the difference between a router, switch and hub? These are all ones I've had at least twice. All basic, but come up regularly. In a lot of cases, they just want to check you have some knowledge they can build on. They can teach you the more advanced stuff if you don't already know it.
