  1. Go for Macs buddy... simple plug and go with usb midi.... plug guitars etc straight in, garage band can do the majority of curriculum work.. Sibelius is the bees bottom for composition runs seemlesly on the mac. They are built for multimedia and rock solid. Easy to integrate into a windows server environment. If you go really high end pro tools works a treat too.

  9. Geoff -- Cheers for prompt reply steps 2 and 3 appear to be the problem... I tried using a gui tool and all that happened was I could not login to the linux as local user. Have you got a step by step guide to the whole process .. just point me to a weblink? I ma assuming that once this is done on 1 workstation I can image it onto others or is it an individual station jobby?
  10. Ok smack my butt and call me stupid (here we go opens himself up for huge abuse) We have a large number of cranky old workstations and I am considering going down the edubuntu route to keep them alive for a couple more years. I have succeeded with likewsie-open to get the machines authenticated on the domain... however the next stage is driving me round the twist ... student login, mapping homedrives, shares and finally printers. I have searched about the net and found loads of helpful, but often conflicting methods. So my questions are... has anybody actually got this working successfully with Win 2003/2008 server? has anybody got a simple howto? Would anybody be willing to let me come see this in operation at your school (anywhere from Manchester upwards)? thanks in advance guys

  19. Report card all appears to be working fine over here.... The problem seems to be more and more a random student thing and not even the same student each time... ours has only started today by the looks of things and we appear not to be using the keep kids safe stuff
  20. Wow so I just get onto the site and get a call that something similar has happened at a school I am working at. It appears that it is more of a random issue here where certain marks are changed for certain students... major issue is that school is under HMI scrutiny for attendance... HELLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!! update: called sims support they are not aware of an issue: unmode did you log the error with capita support?

  24. Ulead Video Studio 11 (now Video Studio Pro X2)is a good buy at the moment and works very well with Sony and other HD based cameras. We use it at one of our CLC's with pupils from Y3 - Y11 VideoStudio 11 - or from Pugh
  25. We now have approx 150-200 devices out in Primary / secondary Schools accross the city. Just a quick rundown of our findings 1> Stick with the Linux Installs 2> Provide a "dirty" wireless solution to allow them to connect without going anywhere near your network.. all work done on the device to be uploaded to your VLE/ Learning space 3> Linux install is clean, easy to use and provides students with the tools they need to use in lessons as an alternative to the traditional notebook. 4> If you do mess the the distro eeebackup is a great tool for "imaging" onto an SD Card (PM Me foir more details on howto use) - but is not without its problems and could on occaision be more hassel than pressing F9 at startup and restoring to its original settings (ok u do have to re-enter wireless details but hey we have Y2 children doing it so its not that hard) 5> Provide each device with a 4GB SD card and you got plenty of storage Example Uses: Simple notebook / spreadsheet / presentation with Open Office USe built in video to record drama / Science / etc Use built in Audio Recorder for MFL / AFL / digital notetaking Games keep em happy over break / lunchtime WEb is great for "just getting information quickly" They will last all day if you just open, do what you need to to then close the lid. Don't get too geeky with messing about with the Linux/ connecting to network etc they are meant for open, use, go meantality I could go on and on but that will do for starters.. I will do a full publish of the article I am writing to the forum when done at around christmas time
