Is there a way to control what content is displayed on the BBC homepage across a network? At the moment the default page is displaying the BBC IPlayer three most popular programms, 1 of these is for "Page Three Teens." Whilst this does sound like an interesting programme I am not sure it is welcome in schools. I realise the content that is displayed can be controlled but I have no idea how to do this for all users on a network.

MRS UPDATE... Norfolk have today published on their website an update to the MRS process. This is the first news since 6th December 2007. The update can be found here. Norfolk Schools - About the Modern Reward Strategy Apparently 63% of support staff pay will remain unchanged. 24% will receive an increase, and 13% can expect a DECREASE in their basic pay....
-
This is really just a post for all Norfolk based people Have you had any information as to wether your pay is going up, down or nowhere yet? I thought we were all supposed to have received a letter by know informing us of any changes. This MRS sure is taking a long while to put into practice...

Just a thought, You don't have a kix script running at logon that is setting the proxy do you. I only ask as this has caught me out in a norfolk school that the LEA had setup. They had the settings set on both gpo and a logon kix script.

New Site Feature: Improved News page
Jon replied to ZeroHour's topic in General EduGeek News/Announcements
The box at the top right corner where my avatar now sits is pushing down the text underneath it ... I can see the line You last visited but the PMs unread etc are obscured. Here is a screen shot... I Like it otherwise... -
Is the script running before the drives get mapped? Try using a UNC path rather than the mapped drive

Driver compatabillity? Give that these laptops were designed for Vista, are you sure that all the hardware has the correct XP drivers installed?
-
You need to adjust xp so that it will allow drivers to install that are unsigned.

[closed] bug/error: Forums now blocked by LEA
Jon replied to sidewinder's topic in EduGeek.net Site Problems
In my LEA Norfolk the new edugeek site is being blocked by Symantec Web Sercuity Dynamic Web Filtering... Most of the forum threads are reporting a DDR score of around 50. Very ocasionally the old site would be filtered, but now it is every thread, most threads will display the first 1 or 2 topics and the rest of the thread is filtered, but it seems more and more threads are not displaying any topics at all. Any suggestions on how I can get around this are most welcome. -
This sound very strange to me as if you are getting an address in the 10.0.0 range this is not APIPA. An APIPA address would be in the range of 169.254.x.y Maybe you have a stray DHCP server on your network somewhere, some routers and wirless access points come with a DHCP server activated by default.
-
If he is already using DHCP at home that will not change, he will at home get an address from his router as normal you will not have to get involved there at all. If you set up a reservation for his adaptor on your school DHCP server he will always get that address when in school.
-
Could you not just leave his existing adaptor on DCHP and set up a reservation for it on the DHCP server? that way he will still get the same IP address every time in school.

This sound like it is a DNS issue to me. Check that the machines have the correct Host A records

Hi, all we really need is to cut down on printer resource costs, maybe by limiting the number of pages a day the students are able to print.
-
Hi All, One of the schools I attend to has asked me to look into print management software. What solutions have you come up with? Is print Manager Plus worth the licence cost? Thanks in advance...
-
It all really depends on the typr of backup you have done... If you have just an ordinary back up then it will involve having to reinstall th OS and then restoring the data. If however you have been diligent you would have carried out an ASR (automatic system restore) backups. A restore from here will put your system back up and running very quickly including all of your AD database.

The only reason I can see for having two domains would be if you require seperate password policys. If not then one domain should be the way to go.
-
Perhaps you should email ICT Solutions again and point them to this site http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/wsus/bb466186.aspx SUS (the system ict solutions use) support from microsoft will end on the 10 July 2007....This is an extended date and originally it was due to end some time ago. If they have not yet got around to even testing its replacment then they really should get thier finger out and do so PDQ. To run an unsupported system would leave them to "go it alone"
-
Whatever the server version. You still should backup the DHCP database on the old server and restore it to the new server. This is the only way to be certain you will not have problems with duplicate IP addressing.
-
Don't just set up a new scope and rely on this, you will get problems with duplicate ip address. 8O Have a read of this first 8) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325473
